Since Christmas is only 3 months away, I am starting to make my lists.
What did you give last year? Or giving this year?

haha I've been thinking of this too. Last year we gave her two main teachers each a card with a Sbux gc. Then a joint basket from a local bakery for all the teachers. There's like about 6. This year she will be in the toddler room so there are only 2 main teachers.
Probably Sbux gc plus something cute? Unsure yet.

I have to find out how many are in the classroom...I think 2 at a time, so no idea what to do if there are subs and whatnot.
I am also not sure if I need to give something to the afternoon shift of teachers, my son only attends from 8-2:30. I feel weird not including them, but I feel like they don't care for my son.

I think I gave Target gift cards last year. It wasn't for a lot of money but boy did it add up! Previous year we gave fuzzy socks, but I don't think those were as popular. I think I did Starbucks gift cards the year before.

a gift card + cellophane filled bag of hugs & kisses for her immediate teacher. box of cupcakes for the rest of the teachers to share. i might do small boxes of see's candies this year instead.

Haven't even thought about this at all. Following this thread for ideas too.

Maybe some stuff for the classroom actually.

We ended up giving main teacher $100 gift card and secondary teacher $75 gift card and floaters $50 gift cards. Probably do the same again this year as well.

@locavore_mama: @T-Mom: @Mrs. High Heels: How much did you do for the gift cards? I don't want to spend a ton but don't want to look cheap!
@littlek: Oh wow! That is very generous. I can't afford that much.

@littlek: Do you mind me asking how much your daycare is per week/month? Just to get an idea of the ratio of how much you spend on the daycare vs the gifts?

We are at an in-home daycare that is run by two teachers, I did a basket with a coffee cup w/their initial for each, a bag of DD coffee and different types of teas. This year it will probably be a gift basket from B&BW

I don't know. Last year, I made hot chocolate mugs for them all. They liked that. I still have mason jars so maybe I'll make them something else with mason jars this year. There are too many to give cash to.

@Smurfette: hahah I think we did $10! So two teachers at $10 each then a communal basket which was $30 I think?

This will be our first Christmas with a daycare gift to give. Our prodvider is a home daycare and E is her only kiddo. For her birthday I got her a little coach clutch. I was thinking for Christmas maybe a full bag? Not sure yet!

@Smurfette: hmmm... I think for Starbucks that year I did $15 gift cards (times 6 teachers)... or maybe they were $20..? For Target last year, I think I gave $25 cards. Both my kids were in daycare/preschool by then so that was multiplied times like.. 10 I think. I kind of just give according to what I can afford that year. I think the teachers are grateful for anything they receive since it's the thought that counts!
GOLD / squash / 13576 posts
@Smurfette: I agree with @T-Mom give what you can afford. I'm sure the teachers love whatever gift they receive.

My mom taught preschool for many years and loved anything she got! But, I can tell you gift cards are well received

Bah i'm worried about this, too! She goes to an in-home and we pay T $200 Mon-Thurs and the Fri lady is $50/day. Not sure what to spend...

@T-Mom: @littlek: I just don't want to go cheap. I gotta make sure R stays a favorite
GOLD / squash / 13576 posts
@Smurfette: hahahaha.. I didn't realize how valuable being a "favorite" is until B we moved him to a new daycare and he got ignored by the teachers.

I think I am going todo giftcards, but this group of ladies isn't the starbucks set. I'd love to just give straight cash, is that a bad idea?
I hate doing the visa gift cards because you pay $25 for a $20 card and I hate that!
eta: for the director, do you all do anything?
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@Smurfette: @littlek: LOL I think I might take it for granted bc we've got the mixed thing going for us and we know someone that works at daycare!
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
@locavore_mama: Target is kind of a drive. There are two Walmarts, though, a Costco and the usual suspects of stores.
I like giftcards because I can usually find something to buy, but in all honesty, I'd rather just have the cash, because I can use it to buy gas, or even pay my cleaning lady...which reminds me, I have to gift her as well!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@looch: You could also do food. I brought all the teachers a $5 Chick-fil-a card after R's first month since they worked so hard getting her adjusted. And they all loved it.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@looch: Oh, crap, I have a cleaning lady this year. I better add her to the list.

@Smurfette: Since I'm not giving gift cards to every single teacher, just her main classroom teacher... I plan on giving her a $50 gift card. I figure they are underpaid and do soo much. I have a really great relationship with her too and always have small talk with her when I drop off/pick up N.
N LOVES her teacher and never cries anymore even during drop off... she always talks about her at home, and I am so incredibly grateful for her wonderful care of my daughter... and yes, I gotta make sure N stays a favorite, haha!

@Smurfette: the holidays are sooo expensive... always someone you need to give a gift to
wonderful pear / 26210 posts
@littlek: of food? I am thinking of doing a breakfast tray of bagels with all the fixings.
I will have my son bring the director a little something, he loves to bring her flowers and stuff, so I have to see if I can come up with something.

@looch: what about Amazon gift cards? Those are my personal favorite, hehe.

I've got her a lunch tote so far that I plan to fill with stuff- coffee, chocolates, etc. I coupon, so I'm looking for things to fill it already, the stuff I have so far has been free. (She has been wanting that bag.) I think I'll get her a gift card too. I REALLY like her teacher. I'll get the afternoon teacher a Target gift card.
GOLD / squash / 13576 posts
@looch: that's really cute! I like the idea of bagels and a spread.
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
@MsMamaBear: that is a super cute idea!!! Like a snack kit for work! Hm. I like that idea.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Mrs. High Heels: There are 2 Head Teachers, and then 2 others, one is there all day and one for a couple hours. Maybe I should just do something little for those 2. I just don't want them comparing gifts or anything. The main two are my favorites, one is even coming to babysit next month.
@littlek: For real! Why I have already started shopping to spread out the costs.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@littlek: Thanks for the details! Our daycare is only $220/week, which is why I was thinking $100 was really generous!
