I have a Freestyle and a generic Medela double electric that I have stored away from last time. Insurance is sending me another this time around (PISA or Purely Yours).
If it was the first time around, I would def get the PISA. But since I have two open system pumps that I can buy new parts for, I'm considering getting the Ameda PY to try a closed system. I will be pumping 3+ days a week once I go back to work.
Which pump would you get?

Maybe try the Purely Yours to see how you like it? I can't imagine the PISA being better than the Freestyle that you already have. I had the Purely Yours and didn't have any problems with it, and I pumped at work until LO was a year old.

My Purely Yours wasn't very good, but they could have gotten better about quality control, plus I was pumping 2-3 times a day five days a week. I did like having the closed-system pump because I never had to worry about it. I also had an older Purely Yours that was great until the motor died, but at that point, it was 4 years old.

I would try the new one! That's what I did. Have the Ameda from last time and got the PISA for my free one this time.

I used the APY the first time around. This was before insurance would cover a pump, and I chose a closed system because after research it seemed it would be easier to resell the closed system one. (I don't necessarily think that's the case anymore.)
Anyway, I really liked the Ameda. I also used my SIL's PISA and the Ameda worked better for me...the flanges were a better fit. I also liked that it was not integrated into a storage bag like the PISA, so I could easily pack it up into my rolling work bag and could use a separate cooler bag for bottles and my lunch. If you already have the Medelas and can get a PISA through insurance, it's nice to have another option in the rotation!

I really like having the closed system of the Ameda - it's why I chose that brand. I did not have any supply problems (EBF including pumping at work for a year). I also used Freemie collection cups a bit (which come with a filter on the tubing if being connected to an Ameda pump to make it essentially closed system) and I hated how easily I could see condensation building up in the tubes...it made me grateful that I didn't have to worry about moisture/mold inside the pump!

Is there much benefit to a closed system vs. open, other than being able to share it/pass it on to someone else? I haven't heard great things about the Ameda, I'd stick with the PISA.

This is just my experience hopefully you will have better luck either way: I got the PY from insurance in 2013 and hated it. My output was 1/2 or less than the PISA. From what I've read this is pretty typical for ameda insurance pumps.
