The only thing I bought special labels for are her bottles/sippy cups (orbit labels). Everything else I just label with a sharpie on the tag! And I wrote her name in sharpie on her lunch box. I don't label her shoes.

i didn't put labels in shoes, but olive has come home with the wrong shoes at least twice haha!

i think pretty much all the label companies are the same. we've used the non-iron on ones with much success so just get whatever is cheapest. honestly we never had problems with losing things in daycare... we lost more things in public pre-k!

I use the non-iron on round clothing labels for everything. They stay on great. We use stickeymonkey.com. Her daycare requires everything to be labeled. When I forget a label on her shoes, they write on masking tape and put it on the bottom - it works, but after walking around outside like that it is impossible to get off later. I prefer just to stick a clothing label in there...works fine.

I only used "special" labels for Xander's bottles. Then I just took sharpie to tags for his sheets and blankets. I didn't even bother labeling most of his clothes or shoes! I use a dry erase marker to label his food containers so I can easily change the date on them. And the daycare has their own labels that they've applied to his pacifier and other items as needed.

I used name labels for my LO when she had bottles. I used the rubber name bands for the bottles and the labels for the lids. I didn't want to lose bottle lids! I sharpie on her food container because they're not permanent and washes off. But remember to label BOTH the lid and bottoms of the containers. A lot of food containers can be mixed up among all the other ones. I put labels on her clothes because they ask for extra clothing (for water play, for when accidents happen, etc) and I don't want them getting lost or sent to the wrong kid since they're only used when needed. I don't label shoes, I just sharpie the bottoms with her name since most of her shoes have pink/white/tan soles. Her everyday shoes I don't mark, just the ones we leave at school. I also put a label on her lunch bag since it's the ubiquitous green sprouts bag that everyone seems to have. I also tie a ribbon around the handle just to make it stand out.

Really it's not about losing things as people will return your stuff if it gets sent to the wrong person ... it's just that you want to prevent mix ups to begin with.

When my LO starts pre-k, I'll probably end up labeling just about everything!

We put labels on his bottles, clothes, and blankets. I loved the stickers that go on clothing and don't wash off. I found that I couldn't always write with a sharpie on his clothes and have it look presentable. Our daycare also required us to number his bottles in the order we wanted him to drink them but we used painter's tape and a marker for those. But I would have found it annoying having to redo the tape with his name every day. We did use the shoe stickers once since they came with my package but I haven't had to use those yet. Maybe when he's a bit older.

We've had DS come home in someone else's clothing a few times so labeling clothes has been necessary.

I have Oliver's Labels, Mabel's Labels, Lovely Labels...they are all the same...and all good! I go for the pattern I like best at the time.

We put labels in shoes and boots, and anything else that is likely to come off. Hats, mitts, coats, that sort of stuff. I find that those things might get confused by teachers who might trade off duty during the day, so I do it mostly for them.

In my daughter's school, labels saved us with keeping tabs on the same type of stuff (shoes, boots, coats and mitts) many times! Especially if kids happen to end up with the same ones!
