So I just got the February Newsletter from my daycare and within it, it includes a "Valentines Class List" with a list of the names of all the children and teachers in Xander's class. Does this mean they are expecting us to give out Valentines to everyone?? And if so, what would be appropriate for babies/toddlers under 18 months??

I'm sure it's optional, but if it says Valentine's List, expect for LO to get some Valentines
I wouldn't feel obligated, but I'd probably give out Valentines too.

I don't think at this age you need too. I asked her teacher last night and she told me I could do something if I wanted but they aren't going to do anything as a class since most of the kids are younger.

We always have done something. You can just get cheap classroom cards with something he likes on it. Maybe a sticker or something.

You can get the box of cards for $1 at a drugstore...that is what we did last year. My son carried those cards around until they were shreds, lol.

@Adira: Last year was our first winter at the center, we literally got the list the day before, I think there was confusion with my parents who do drop off and pickup, so there I was, running out at dinner time to get the cards, because I didn't want my son to be the odd man out!

Ours sent a note saying that we should bring a certain number of valentine cards with DD name "signed" on it (not with the names of the kids in the class). I thought they were a little young (infant room) but I guess it's cute.

My DS MDO requested photo cards (which you can do fairly cheap at CVS). I am excited about it because he loves looking at the holiday photo cards of the friends he knows. I think it will be great to have a picture of everyone from his class.

As a teacher I send out a valentine list not to tell parents to hand them out, just so that if they do, they can be sure they include everyone and there isn't one or two students left out who get no valentines. So I would say you don't need to do valentines , but if you do, be sure to include everyone in the class

Our center asked the parents to bring in cards for all of LO's classmates (they are having a small party). I was/am excited for LO to get Valentines!
I just picked up a cute pack of cards from Target . . . I think it cost maybe a couple of dollars.

Our center gave us a list of names but stressed in the email that passing out cards was totally optional. The biggest thing they said was not to bring in any candy/food item, even wrapped stuff - but they are very strict on food since there are kids with allergies.
We got some paper Elmo "thanks for being my friend" type cards and stickers.

When DD was in daycare, they exchanged Valentines but that was it. They did it as a sharing activity. DD is now in preschool and they asked that she bring in Valentines to share but asked that unless the child could read the other kids names to just put "To my friend" on them, Both the first time and this year we are going to get Valentines from a local restaurant where they get a free kids meal, the cards are like 8 for $1.

I think it's fun, I love these things. I think stickers are always fun! I'm giving out big light up bouncy balls with a note that says "You make my heart BOUNCE!" but they are all quite a bit older though.

Totally optional! I hope my center gives me a list...I think I will take a picture of the sign in sheet tonight so I can get the names!

for that age, i think it's optional, although i was thinking of giving cards to the teachers.

Ack! I just saw a Valentines List this morning. I was going to get each kid a food pouch like applesauce but after reading this thread that is probably a bad idea? I would assume they could take them home and they teachers would not feed it to them.

I bought Vday cards and a pack of playdoh. Our daycare just told us how many kids were in the class and to not bring in food. They suggested stickers, bubbles or playdoh. I thought the stickers and bubbles were still too young for the toddler room so I went with playdoh.

what do you do for the teachers? My LO got the list too and it included the teacher's names so ... just a valentine's day card? We were planning on doing goodie bags for the kids. Should I give something for the teachers too?

We got a box of Valentine's for like $2. I plan to do something additional for the teachers, but only because Friday is also his last day in the 1yo old room and I want to thank them for being so awesome. I am thinking about getting them a mug with a packet of hot cocoa and a card saying "You warm my heart."

@aegie: We've been with our center for about a month, so we're new to this. I got them some boxes of chocolates along with valentines. I figure it's a nice gesture since we're new parents to the classroom.

@aegie: We are doing glow sticks for the kids with a tag saying you make my heart glow. So I got the teachers candles so I can use the same tag.
