My oldest is 5 and about to graduate from his daycare. He's been going there since 12 weeks and will be starting Kindergarten in the fall at a new school.
I'm thinking I want to thank the director, assistant director, and the school in general in some way for taking such good care of my kid for the last 5+ years! Any ideas???

When my eldest graduated from daycare to aftercare there and now summer camp, I treated the staff to an Olive Garden lunch. It was well appreciated.

@cascademom: Can I ask how you organized that? Did you take orders and do pick-up? Or invite them all out to lunch?

@Adira: I had it catered. I went to Olive Garden, ordered it from their catering menu (got extra chicken breasts since the one I ordered from was a little anemic on it) with the catering manager. They called me ahead of the delivery and it was all set up. They charged my credit card the day of the event. The catering manager was fantastic. She eliminated treats with nuts in it because it's a school environment. I'm doing catering this weekend for my son's baptism. So easy.

When we moved I wrote individual thank you cards to my boy’s four caretakers telling them how much we appreciated them and included in each a cash tip. I didn’t do anything for the director aside from burst into tears on the last day, but she wasn’t that involved, it was mainly the head teacher. Just my experience in the service industry that cash is always welcome—but the breakfast idea is so nice too.

@cascademom: Oh interesting! I don't know if my Olive Garden does this or not (I know they do take-out, just not sure of catering and delivery). Thanks!
@LCTBQE: Yes to cash, always! We always gift the teachers cash for most holidays and they always are so appreciative! I've never really given the Director, Assistant Director, or the other helpers anything though, so I was kind of thinking it'd be nice to do something. The Assistant Director especially is pretty hands-on with the kids.

@Adira: You can pretty much go anywhere that has catering and delivery. Then make sure that they'll be nut free for items.

I do Target gift cards for each teacher and the director for Christmas and coffee and chocolates for the end of the school year- each time i do a handwritten note. It is at a private school so no summer childcare.
I would do all of the above- small edible gift, personal card, and a gift card.

I didn’t do anything when our oldest left. But i will when the second one is done. And i like the idea of bringing in breakfast or lunch.

@MamaG: Yeah, I'm thinking I want to do something now for them taking care of Xander and then do it again for Logan, but it'll definitely be a bigger deal when my youngest leaves!!!
