I hate you. I hate you and the pain you are causing me and my baby. I hate you and the insane amount of cleaning and sanitizing you require. I hate you and your stupid medicine that has to be applied to both of us multiple times a day. You are a life ruiner.

We never had a bad case but vinegar and milk of magnesia were my best friend!

@T.H.O.U.: Yeah I've been using vinegar (in addition to nystatin for both of us) but I have a cracked nip from the thrush and so washing with vinegar makes me want to scream in pain
Poor M was on antibiotics for a good three weeks trying to clear an ear infection and so that's where the thrush came from. Luckily we caught it early so it's a mild case. We are both taking lots of probiotics in addition to the medicine. I'm already feeling less pain when nursing her but I just feel like thrush is taking over my life!

@MamaMoose: Try the milk of magnesia. It is so soothing and calming, especially if you put it on cold and let it air dry on. Obviously wash off before you nurse again.

Urgh, I feel for you, we had a recurring case when A was tiny. I remember the pharmacist telling me to 'make her swish the medicine around her mouth then gargle'. Ha ha. Yeah okay, I'm sure my 3-month-old will do that just great 
Initially we used a violet coloured liquid that stained, then A used nyststin and I had a special cream too. Probiotics are supposed to help.... Good luck, hope you both feel better soon!

Nystatin only works 35% of the time!!! After two or so months of nystatin my Dr prescribed Daktarin gel for LO and the thrush was gone in FOUR days.
Hang in there Mama, I have quite literally felt your pain!

DS never showed signs, only I did. I took 250mg Grapefruit seed extract 3x/day for about two weeks and it cleared it up. The first time the nipple pain went away after the first two doses. I would also do the vinegar rinse after pumping on both myself and my flanges.

@MamaMoose: I'm right there with you. We've had thrush for about a month. I'm ready to give up on breastfeeding!! I'm so incredibly frustrated and so sick if clinics and doctors.

@MamaMoose: & @.twist.: I fought a 2+ month battle with thrush - it is an evil beast. I almost quit breastfeeding because I felt like thrush was running my life. What finally worked for me was exclusively pumping so that my nipples healed completely, taking a probiotic, giving LO a probiotic, and alternating putting coconut oil and monistat cream on my nipples after each pumping session, shower, and before bed. Before I got that to work I tried: vinegar, nystatin, gentian violet, and diflucan. Good luck, ladies!

@owlmom: thank you!! I am going to try the monistat cream. My nipples are healed, but still hurt, so I will just make sure to keep them super clean and dry. The worst part is that even if you feel like you're getting better, there isn't a sure way to tell!

@.twist.: If you do try monistat, make sure you get monistat 7, the one that's cream (or any other yeast infection brand that's miconazole nitrate cream), not monistat 1 or 3, which comes in a capsule - learn from my mistake

I've given up the battle for now because my LO is back on antibiotics so I have no chance. She gets her ear tubes on Tuesday and once we get that over with I will take on the thrush. It's definitely gotten better but every now and then I have some pain that suggests its not totally gone.
