@Crystal: we can start this cycle. I'll double check at our appointment at fertility clinic cause we meet with them before I'll O. I think my problem is short LP do maybe progesterone or some drugs can help me. We will see what they say. We will try regardless this month if we can find time over the busy holidays!

Hope it's ok to jump in!!
    Cycle Day: 3
    TTC Cycle #: 7
Ovulation and POAS dates: o date 12/25
    POAS 1/3
    Baby #: 2
Your plan: We started with an RE last month and tomorrow is our follow up apt to go over everything and make a plan. I am worried/excited. Here are our stats: I am 38, DH is 35, all of our prelim tests came back normal/good except for my FSH which was 12.3. (I think we are waiting on a few more blood test results so maybe i'll be able to update our true stats after tomorrow). Our plan is to see what the RE says/suggests and hopefully go from there. My fertile week is over Christmas break so we'll DTD EOD in hopes we can get a natural BFP, however at this point I'm not as hopeful as I'd been in the past.

I'm nervous and a little scared about finding ourselves here. Just hoping for a good outcome.
Good luck to all of you lovely ladies.

I'm spotting pretty heavily. I expect AF tonight or tomorrow AM. Here's to a 2016 BFP....

Well, since AF is here, this will be my third and final clomid + TI cycle. I left a message for my doctor this morning, asking about IUI. If IUIs don't work, we're pretty much stuck. We just can't financially swing IVF in the near future. Maybe in a few years?? I just feel like the whole projection of my life is changing because of IF.

@doxielove: First off, I'm so sorry about AF. It never gets easier.
You and I are in the same boat. Two Clomid cycles didnt work for us unfortunately. We are beginning the process for IUI next month but I've just been so unsure as to whether I want to proceed or not.

    persimmon / 1388 posts

Ok ladies, I created a seperate thread, but I also want to pose the question here.

Ya'll know my backstory. Unexplained IF, 3 years trying. 2 failed clomid + TI cycles. I want to move on to clomid + IUI. My current RE does not do monitoring, which took me aback (you just call when you get a + opk). 1 IUI will be $383. I was going to make an appointment with a different RE for a 2nd opinion, but they charge $466 just to walk in the door...!!!! I hate to cheap out when it comes to IF, but I'm trying to make sound financial decisions as well. I'm meeting with my current RE on the 29th to further discuss. She just wanted to lay out my options for me now. She also wants to discuss me getting a lap (before moving on to IUI). Thoughts??

@LoveHope: Why are you unsure if you want to proceed or not?

    @LoveHope: why, friend?

@doxielove: i *completely understand and relate* about finances, but I'd be a bit worried to go with the "discount" dr and not get KU due to bad timing. Do you think you could get a free consult with the other RE? Any others in the area you could call?

AF started, so I'm out. I knew I likely wasn't KU anyways. I wasn't tracking anything, and no idea when I actually Od. This makes my cycle 26 days, and 28 days last month. (Prior to my first m/c, cycles were 28 days. After that, it was 29 days and Oing about day 17). So either my LP sucks even worse than it did, or I'm Oing earlier.

I should get more bloodwork back this afternoon. Wish me luck!

@doxielove: I gues I keep holding on to hoping that I'll magically conceive with no medical intervention. My RE wants me to do IUI with injectables. She says it has a better success rate for people with unexplained IF. I think I'm just scared to not feel like myself. I felt awful on Clomid.

    @Crystal: Hoping for good results!

IVF meds are shipped. Big bill due tomorrow. First Monitoring appt and saline sonogram are Friday morning. I leave for Paris Sunday for a week. I start estrace around when I get home. I expect I will have terrible migraines but I'm off work. Stims start either 1/1 or 1/2. EGg retrieval 1/13-1/15. Transfer 3-5 days after egg retrieval. Trying to stay positive but struggling.

@Crystal: Hope the results you get are positive ones! I'm so sorry about AF

@LoveHope: Trust me, I can empathize! That's part of the reason we've waited so long to seek intervention. I always held out hope that "this will be THE cycle!"

@AmeliaBedilia: Wishing you all the best!!!!

@Crystal: $466 is the consultation price...!!! So, yeah, no free consult from that doc. I have 2 other practices' #'s, so I'll call them and find out pricing if my consult with my current RE doesn't go well. I'm going to grill her on why she does things the way she does. Good luck with your blood work results!!

@LoveHope: I'm so sorry you are at a crossroads, what does DH think?

@AmeliaBedilia: I am so excited for you!!! Is Paris work or pleasure? Either way, how exciting!!

@doxielove: that's crazy!!! Definitely call around!!! I'm curious why your re doesn't do monitoring, please share after you talk to her!!

Results came back. Cleared for everything, no discernible reason why we've lost multiple pregnancies and dealing with IF. As happy as I am about that, I wish there was something easy we could fix.

  15. AmeliaBedilia

    nectarine / 2192 posts

@Crystal: have you been checked for natural killer cells? Mine are elevated but can be treated with prednisone and intralipid infusions. We are going to Paris for fun- visiting a friend who will be moving in a few months, so we wanted to make it while she is still there. Free
Place to stay and a tour guide.

@Ajsmommy: welcome to our group. We are seeing a RE for the first time next week. Best of luck over the break, I hope you get our BFP!
@doxielove: I don't know much about IUI but I think it would be a good route for you to go right now. You can think about IVF for the future but hopefully IUI works for you.
@AmeliaBedilia: best wishes for your IVF. And enjoy your holiday in Paris. You deserve a wonderful vacation!
@Crystal: I'm sorry about AF. I know what you mean about results. I'm half hoping when we go to the clinic next week they can find something wrong so at least we will have answers and try to fix. If they tell me everything looks fine and can't explain the losses it's hard to know what to do.

  17. Crystal

    grapefruit / 4028 posts

@AmeliaBedilia: I haven't heard of that... I'll definitely ask, though, thank you! I hope you have the best time ever in Paris!

@delight: exactly. Obviously what we are doing isn't working, and I'd like to think its something we can do or a way to be proactive instead of it being attributed to terribly luck. I hate the idea that there's nothing to be done, I can't keep doing the same thing and hoping for a different result. My sanity can't handle it.

@doxielove: I hope it's okay for me to delurk here... I spent a lot of time on this thread on my IF journey, so I'm always rooting for you ladies and checking in once in awhile. So after 3 failed IUIs, if I were to do it again i'd do injectible meds with monitoring and a trigger shot. This is not a professional opinion so take it with a grain of salt, but after going through it I honestly don't see a huge difference between clomid + TI and clomid + IUI, especially without the monitoring or without a trigger shot to make sure you're catching ovulation at the best time for your developing follicle(s). I'm so sorry that finances even has to be a factor in this. Not fair and sucks. Truly hoping you can get a 2nd opinion from an RE without paying up front - to me that is ludicrous! Good luck.

  19. Ajsmommy

    pomegranate / 3355 posts

Well hoooozaaaa. We had our RE apt tues afternoon and he told us that everything was normal with our tests just that my egg reserve was low so time was of the essence. He suggested we do clomid + injections + trigger + TI for 2-3 cycles. He said that with this treatment they would code it as diagnostic so it would be covered by insurance so DH was on board and so was I.

Since I was cd4 that day they wanted me to start the next morning so I had my blood draw and ultrasound and then I was called back to finance. Well they can't get it coded as diagnostic so it won't be covered and we owe $3k (this includes the meds that are being shipped to me to arrive today)

DH is in shock. I feel caught in a whirl wind and hope that as the days tick on I will feel more calm about it all.

DH has serious concerns about the financial part of it. I am so bummed that it's not covered by insurance! why isn't it!?!?! this should be covered..... especially in today's day and age. Anyway he wants to discuss how much we are willing to put out for treatments and I'm not quite sure how to respond.

My feeling is that you can't put a price on this and that I'd be remiss if I didn't do everything I possibly could.. like if I didn't go all the way then I'd always regret it.

    Any advice?? On everything!!

  20. doxielove

    persimmon / 1388 posts

@Ajsmommy: I feel ya on the financial side of things. My insurance covers zero IF treatments (just testing up to the point of diagnosis). It's a really big factor in how we'll proceed with treatments. $3k!? What kind of meds are you getting?

@YogiRunner: Perfectly OK - I appreciate all the advice I can get! Thank you for the perspective!!

@Crystal: That's great there's nothing necessarily wrong, but probably very frustrating at the same time! What's your game plan going to be?

  21. Ajsmommy

    pomegranate / 3355 posts

@doxielove: meds totalled $735. Gonal f, progesterone and a trigger shot. Plus it's $500 for each monitoring appt

  22. Crystal

    grapefruit / 4028 posts

@Ajsmommy: I hate that the size of any of our families will be dictated by finances. can you ask for limited appts or if there are other way to cut costs?

@doxielove: finances suck. Our game plan is to get me back on Clomid in January, then get on P as soon as I get a BFP. I hope it works, but I guess we'll see 😕

  23. AmeliaBedilia

    nectarine / 2192 posts

@Ajsmommy: $500 for monitoring seems really high. At the office I go to, it's around $200 unless you get a package. In terms of meds, shop around. I've found winfertility is the cheapest on most things, unless you buy meds from Europe. Also, sometimes your doc can substitute something- mine said he would do follistim or gonal f, for example.

  24. Ajsmommy

    pomegranate / 3355 posts

@AmeliaBedilia: I did swap follistim for gonal f to save $$

And there is an option for $1600 flat fee that will cover all monitoring Appts. At this point I'm just not sure how many monitoring Appts I'll have.

From what I've been reading it does seem like my clinic is expensive. I think once we're through this cycle if no bfp we'll have more time to review and maybe work it out to not spend quite so much.. hopefully. I feel like we just jumped into this one blindly....

  25. AmeliaBedilia

    nectarine / 2192 posts

@Ajsmommy: on femara, I had a baseline appt and then one a week later. I always responded. When we added low dose injectables, I had four appointments including the baseline. Everyone is different but hope that helps.

  26. Ajsmommy

    pomegranate / 3355 posts

    @AmeliaBedilia: thanks for the info.

I'm guessing I'll have at least three. Already had the first one, one this week to check and then maybe a third as.follow up? Not sure....

Do I wait for a missed period to test, like normal or do they do blood work at some point?

  27. Crystal

    grapefruit / 4028 posts

@Ajsmommy: I think they do bloodwork, or at least my clinic does.

How is everyone doing? I'm really really dreading the holidays...

@Crystal: I'm in the TWW but just feeling depressed. The holidays are so hard especially with being around family and babies. I really hope 2016 is a better year for all of us. It just needs to be
    How are you doing?

  29. NorthStar

    pear / 1881 posts

@Ajsmommy: I'm totally delurking here, but is the $1,600 fee for all monitoring for all cycles or just one cycle? I was paying about $600/montoring appointment during my IUI cycles and it added up fast. I probably did 2-4 ultrasounds during each IUI (I'm ramping up for my second IVF now).

I agree with @AmeliaBedilia: if you have to go another round and need meds again, shop around and don't let the doctor choose where you buy them from. For example, folilstim is cheapest at Winfertility but some other meds, like menopur, are cheaper at Freedom. I really wish that insurance covered this crap so that we didn't have to stress over the financial aspect of it. Good luck!

I'm also sending strength to all of you ladies over the next few days in order to get through the holiday season. I just wish that I could curl up in a ball and wake up on Jan 4th..

I'm feeling particularly evil this round of clomid (just in time for the holidays! ). 3rd and final clomid + TI cycle. I have an appointment with my RE in 1 week to discuss our next steps.

@doxielove: I totally understand the evil that Clomid causes. I was all sorts of crazy.

  32. Crystal

@doxielove: Clomid crazy is the worst! And the main reason we chose to wait until
January. I know I'm going to be crazy regardless!

@NorthStar: me too, friend. Me too. When is your next transfer?

@LoveHope: when is your poas date? I really really hope 2016 is a better year... Im doing ok. This is our last "natural" TTC cycle before we start Clomid again. I have no hope that it's going to work, but have to try any ways, right?

Just checking in and want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas/Happy Holiday. We had our meeting at the fertility clinic and we are just grttijg a bunch of tests done for now. I'm slightly petrified of the hysteroscopy! We still get to try in the meantime so I will be POAS in January. Just entering O week now. Terrible timing as this week is crazy busy but we will see what we can do. All the best to you all.

    @Crystal: good luck this cycle

@NorthStar: $1600 is a global fee for all monitoring appt in this cycle.

    Update :
Monitoring appt on cd12 showed 2 larger follicles. One 16.5 and one 13. Lining was a 6.5. Estradiol was 295.

Instructions were to trigger(ovridel) that night along with timed intercourse on cd12 and cd13

I'm worrying though bc ff thinks I o'd on cd10 based on my temps..But wouldn't the re have known if I had already ovulated??? They would have right??

  36. Crystal

    grapefruit / 4028 posts

@Ajsmommy: what cd are you now? Maybe the temps will adjust later.

They should be able to tell if you've Od already.

  37. delight

    pomelo / 5326 posts

@Ajsmommy: I am sure they would have been able to tell if you Od already! Good luck this cycle.

Question for you ladies about blood work. Can I do my 21 day blood work this cycle and then CD 3 bloodwork next cycle? Or does it have to be same cycle? Also it says day 21 but I O'd on day 17 so should I just do 7dpo? My office is closed until after NY so I can't call them.

  38. Crystal

    grapefruit / 4028 posts

@delight: I would assume you can do it different cycles, at least that's been the case in my experience. And all my CD21 bloodwork has been 7DPO bloodwork. (As in, meant for 7DPO)

  39. delight

    pomelo / 5326 posts

@Crystal: ok thanks! My requisition says cycle day 21/22. I'll just go 7dpo!

  40. doxielove

    persimmon / 1388 posts

@delight: My requisition paper said CD 21-23, but I'm just going to go this cycle 7 DPO, which looks like might be CD 24 this month. My CD3 bloodwork was not done the same cycle as progesterone/CD21 bloodwork.
