For anyone who did - when did you start??

yeah, mommy, daddy and no. I chose no so I can discipline her...hopefully it doesn't turn on me if she starts signing no for things she WON'T do!

We used it a lot; DD's daycare also uses sign language, so it was a great communication tool for us. We started pretty easy with signs for more, all done, milk, eat, mommy and daddy. Later on, we added a bunch more verbs (play, potty, snow, etc...), some conversational words (please, thank you) and a lot of animals. DD probably knows 35 or more words, although she mostly talks now. It was super helpful from about 9 months until 15 months, when she really started talking.
We just watched how-to videos off of http://www.aslpro.com and looked up new words when it seemed like DD was ready for it.

Our daycare teaches it but we never really reinforced it too much at home. Now, LO usually signs and speaks when she wants something.

One of my good friends uses it with her 15 month old daughter. It is so handy (and really cute), so I think we'll probably try it when we can with our LO. MY husband was totally blown away by it.

My younger sister has taught my nephew to sign thank you, please, more and I think that's it right now. And he's 18 months but been doing it for some time.

My lo's babysitter taught her some sign when she was really little and it was super awesome and realy helpful. She doesn't do it anymore because she quit when she learned to talk but that was fine with me!

We'd like to try it. I took sign language in college and know some basics. Plus, I have a neighbor who is deaf and he helps me learn some new signs every time I see him. He quizzes me on what I remember, too.

My cousin taught her 11 month old and now he makes the breastfeeding (milk) sign at her every 5 minutes - it's so funny! But she's like, I can't get annoyed, I taught it to him!

I am thinking about it.
My mom did it with my little sister and brother and it was SO cool. They knew so many words. I was always amazed at how well I could communicate with them.

@prettylizy what app(s) are you using? I'm thinking about starting some basic signs with my 6 mo.

I hope too, my cousins did it and they were great communicators and were advanced when it came to talking. I think it would help with frustration. Even just a few terms to help the baby communicate what it wants would be helpful.

LO is 10 months and hasn't really gotten in it. She communicates in her own way but doesn't really sign much.

yup my eldest knew a few signs at around 10-11 months... we only did a handful of them... more, eat, milk, etc...
my 9 month old just started approximating for "more".
I don't use flash cards or anything. I just incorporate the signs to our daily routine... at mealtimes, bathtime, etc...
