We have a mattress protector, but both times I slept with a child's mattress protection pad underneath my side of the bed from about 30 weeks on. I ended up being induced both times and never needed it though!

Nope, but I probably should have! Maybe I will next time. I had just laid down to go to sleep, had a strong, different feeling contraction, felt it starting to break, jumped out of bed, and ran to the toilet. A bit leaked on the floor, but my mattress was safe.

I never even got that far. Probably if I made it closer to my due dates.

Nope. But I was mostly sleeping on the couch at that point (only way I could get comfortable!) and was able to quickly jump up when I felt a pop. Plus I didn't gush, it was a slow leak. I think I will be a little more conscious about it this time around and put some towels down or something.

We got a fancy new tempurpedic while I was pregnant so it occurred to me for sure. They sold us a nice waterproof mattress protector at the store and I was glad knowing it was on. My water broke in the hospital shortly before baby was born both times anyway but it's also nice for spit up, leaking boobs, post partum night sweats. All that fun nasty stuff.

@KT326: with my second it broke while I was pushing- huge gush!

We have a mattress protector so I didn't really think about it. Water broke on the couch and I was able to jump up so the gush happened on the floor and not our couch! (although I'd like an excuse to buy new ones )

@Foodnerd81: The big gush came for me while I was getting my epidural, all over the bed, floor and nurses shoes! I felt so bad.

Nope never even crossed my mind with #1. My water started while I was in the living room and I ran to the kitchen so I wouldn't ruin the carpet in the rental apartment.
My husband put garbage bags down on our brand new car so that I wouldn't get the seats wet.
With #2 I could use a new mattress so won't be protecting it either.

I didn't the first time and my water broke in bed, but it was a high leak so only had a tiny spot on my underwear luckily! The second time I put some leftover chucks pads under my side in case but I ended up making it to my induction. We have a mattress protector anyways but the more layers the better - I kept them in there to help with the postpartum sweatfest! I hate constantly washing the mattress protector.

After my water broke during my sleep with my first we got a waterproof mattress pad after that.

I put puppy pads under the sheets! Never needed them though because I was induced.

I was just thinking about this last night! I'm 39 weeks now and really should do this, but keep putting it off. We have a mattress pad but I probably should put something else down. My water did not break on its own last time but I'm just waiting this time around.

Yes, we have a waterproof mattress pad on. I put it on there a couple of weeks ago.

Nope. It wouldn't have done any good. My water broke all over my kitchen floor when I was trying to catch a mouse.

We bought a waterproof cover for our mattress because I was worried about my water breaking. It ended up being very useful because we did a lot of co-sleeping and had some leaky diapers soak the sheets.

I think I layered a bunch of my dog's wee wee pads under the sheet then I slept on a towel.

This oddly was something that I was worried about...what if my water broke in bed or on the couch? At my doula's rec I put down a shower curtain liner under the sheet to protect the mattress maybe the day before I ended up going into labor. They broke my water when I was 10 cm. Fat lot of good that curtain liner did

We got a waterproof mattress liner that is also supposed to help with allergies. My husband has dust / dust mite allergies and we absolutely love our mattress and want it to last as long as possible

This never even crossed my mind, but we had a pretty thick mattress protector on the bed anyone.

I did the same! Used the waterproof crib mattress under my sheets. My water broke at home for my first, but I was going to the bathroom so that was the best case scenario for water breaking, Lol. The 2nd time was at the hospital so it was a non-issue. But I kept a towel in my car and at work just in case from about 34 weeks on, Lol

We bought a waterproof mattress protector. Ironically, even though my water broke in bed, we didn't really need it. It was just a trickle until I actually stood up.

With #1 I going to you, but my water broke at 35 weeks and I didn't put it on yet. With #2 I put a waterproof pad down around 32 or 33 weeks, but my water broke in the bathroom. I'm 32 weeks now with number three, so next time I change my sheets I'm going to put a mattress pad down
