I always thought I would aim for a year... Not sure how long I'll be able to keep up this EPing.
Did you breast feed longer or shorter than you'd planned?

With G, shorter. With P, longer than I initially thought.. we'll have to see how long we go to know for sure though (I'm guessing till around age 3)

Longer. I'm at 11 months and don't see us stopping anytime soon!! I thought I would be done at 12 months!!

Longer, but I set my original goal at 6 months. We are almost 9 months now, and my new goal is 12 months. I guess I was just hoping to make it 6 months at least, and I'm thankful I did. A year would be even better!

With LO, shorter. I got pregnant so I had to wean when I dried out when LO was 9 months old. I had enough milk in the deep freezer so she drank breast milk for 5 more months.
I want to breast feed my newborn for a year!

Longer! My original goal was 6 months . . . my LO is almost 9 months now! Although I am in the process of day weaning, I plan to BF at morning/night until she's 1, if she's interested.

just shy of my goal of a year! I would've kept going as long as DS wanted to.
I've worked full time, 40+ hours, since he was 7 weeks old and always breastfed when we were together but around 10 months he started refusing and sleeping through the night. That combo was the end of it.

I didn't really have a plan. My goal was 1 year+. We've made it past that. Right now I'm in the process of day weaning, and she can nurse in the mornings as long as she would like. Whenever she gets the hang of whole milk, I'll quit the nighttime pumping.

Shorter. I had a very colicky baby who never slept and what I now believe was some minor PPD, I just felt like I couldn't do it any more. DD was late preterm, jaundiced and not gaining weight so our pedi and LC had us waking her every two hours around.the.clock, nursing for 15 minutes on each side, pumping after every session and supplementing with pumped milk each time. With a baby who never stopped crying and hardly slept, something had to give.
I certainly feel some guilt about the fact that I didn't BF for a year like I had planned. I ran into someone from my old BF group today and had to admit that I was a quitter. I felt a little shame. I absolutely know, however, that formula was the best thing for my baby and myself. I am proud that I was able to nurse her for 12 weeks. After that, she needed a sane mom who could keep it together and care for her more than she needed my milk.
Sorry for the novel - this is close to my heart! Good luck

With DS1, way longer. I thought I'd breastfeed him for 6 months then give him pumped milk til 12 months. He nursed until he was 2 years 4 months. With DS2 I'm hoping for at least 2 years 6 months and he's 16 months now.

I never really set a goal. I just figured I'd breastfeed for as long as my body would let me. LO is one and we are going strong.

Longer. I didn't want to breastfeed at all. But I figured I would try and if it worked it worked. Then I set a 6 month goal. 5.5 months and still going. Hoping to make it a year now.

Longer. I wasn't overly enthusiastic about it and set a big goal of six months but was hoping to at least make 6 weeks. Nearly 11 months in, we're still going strong! We'll keep going to a year and then start gradually weaning.

Longer. I wanted to go at least a year, ideally 2. DD's almost 26 months old and I nurse her once a day still.

We're at 7 months...much longer than I thought I would breastfeed if you had asked me when LO was born.

I didn't exactly breastfeed directly, but I exclusively pumped a lot longer than planned -- 13 months. My original goal was 3 months.

Shorter. DS was breastfed for about a month before we switched to formula. It was really hard for me. My birth didn't turn out like I'd planned and then BFing didn't workout either. It was a combination of colic, a baby who refused to latch, and lack of support (DH was deployed). My original goal was a year and I'm hoping it works out with LO #2!

@yin: that's what I'm doing and I'm really struggling with it. I'm glad to hear you made it 13 months! That is incredible! gives me a bit of hope...
