With Charlie I quit around the 4 month mark and exclusively pumped. It didn't bother me though. I made it until 9 months and would have definitely gone on to at least a year if I hadn't ingested pesticides when we had our apartment treated.
With Olive I had no expectations and made it to 26 months and weaned (not by her choice). I never imagined going that long!

With DD, longer than I planned. (28 months)
With DS, shorter. (10.5 months, but I pumped til his 1st bday). Didn't expect him to go on a nursing strike!

Shorter. I had full intention of breastfeeding at least 9-12 months but only went about 6 weeks. There were many factors...twins being the main one. I'm perfectly ok with it, though.

LO 1- a little shorter than I expected. I weaned at 9 months when my supply dried up from being pregnant.
LO 2- longer than expected. BF for 17 months. Original goal 12 months.

Longer (but just a little longer). I planned to stop at a year but when the time came decided to take a more gradual approach so she was fully weaned around 14 months.

I had figured on 4-6 months but didn't have a concrete timeline.
Well, DS had other plans and self weaned at 20.5 months.

Both? While I was pregnant, I wanted to try, but I really didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did, so my goal was 6 months. I ended up loving it and would have gone until 18 months or so, but LO self-weaned at 12.5 months.

Definitely shorter. I had low supply from the beginning and struggled so much. My LO went on nursing strike after nursing strike in the early months and I thought we were almost done so many times. We are still going strong at 15 months & I'm so surprised!

@Caly: Breastfeeding twins for 6 months is a huge accomplishment!
I weaned at 28 months, which is about what I'd expected. Just, a long time.

I only BF my son for about 6 months but I got pregnant when he was 4 months old and my milk supply started drying up from that point. I had anticipated going for a full year.
Currently nursing DD and she is 6 months old -- hoping to make it to a year this time!

I'm the only 'other' vote at the moment.
With DD I breastfed til 4 months. Goal of 1 year. Broke my heart to have failed at BF her but she was failing to thrive.
With DS my goal is a year. His first birthday is Friday so I think I'm gonna make it and exceed what I was hoping for. Don't have a plan for weaning yet.

DD1: Shorter. Made it to 8.5 months, wanted to hit a year.
DD2: So far have just about hit my year goal--she turns 1 on Feb. 6th. And even though I've tried, shows no signs of weaning, so it will probably be a "longer than expected."

About what I expected: a bit over 18 months. I wanted to go at least a year, open to up to 2 years.

Not sure how to answer. When I was pregnant, I planned on 1yr. Maybe a little past that. First few weeks/months, I hoped to make it to 6 months. LO was not gaining weight, and after he lost weight over the course of a month I decided to supplement more. I finally stopped completely at 8.5 months. Next time I hope to have a much more positive experience. Although to be honest, I can't even imagine going through it again at this point. I think I have PTSD.

LO#1: I planned on a year & made it.
LO#2: I again planned on a year but he's very heavily supplemented at this point at 5 months. on a good day I'll nurse 3-4 times & on a bad only 1-2.

LO1: Initially just try to BF and didn't work so I EP'ed. My goal for EP was 3 months, and I ended up doing it for 13-14 months.
LO2: Again my goal was just to try to BF and hopefully be able to provide a year of breastmilk by pumping again. We're still going strong with breastfeeding at 14 months, which is longer than I expected.

LO1: longer than expected, I didn't have any real goals, but given all of the obstacles that we had to overcome the first months, I was surprised that we made it to 13 months.
LO2: I said I would go until 1 year, but now we are at 13.5 months (and getting closer to being done).

DD1: Longer. With my first, I was willing to give BF'ing a try but had no real commitment to any particular goal. I went in thinking if we made it to six months, that would be huge but I wasn't really fussed about it. I weaned DD1 at 13 months as I was 12 weeks pregnant.
DD2: what I expected. I intended on BF'ing for 12 months and then starting to wean after that. DD2 is currently 11.5 months and I plan to start gradually weaning in about a month or so...

Shorter. I had hoped for at least a year and hopefully 2 years, but we had to supplement with formula at 9 months and he quickly rejected the breast after that.

My first goal was about 6 months.....it's SO hard to WOH and provide lots of breastmilk! But I only made it about 3 on an EP/FF schedule. I don't have any hangups about it, though, and I'm going into breastfeeding #2 with a very chill mentality. Not my hill to die on.

@Mrs. Bee: It really depends on when you measure my expectations. As a kid I figured I would nurse until my kids asked for milk, as and adult I wanted a year or two, at times I thought about going till my kid was not interested anymore (5 years, why not?). After birth it was just "tomorrow, I'll make it to tomorrow" with a goal in the back of my head that went to 6 months and then 12 and then 24. At 14 months I started weaning and then stopped. At 24 months it was down to once a day and finally weaning at 2yrs + 2 months.

#1, 14 months, shorter than expected but I was pregnant with #2 and it was a combination of morning sickness and self weaning.

Longer! I nursed DS until 13 months, I wasn't sure if I would have issues or not because my mom (and many other females in my family) weren't able to nurse past a few months!

We're still in it at 7 months. My goal was a year, but privately I'd always thought we'd go much longer. But my pumping supply is hit and miss, and his has a tooth (just one!) that hurts so badly, so these days I'm wondering if we'll made it to the year. Just trying to take it one week at a time!

We BFd till he was almost 17 months. From 11 months on it was only night time but it lasted until I had to fly out for a few days to visit my grandma in palliative care.

Shorter, DD never latched (3 different LC could not figure it out) so I pumped from the beginning as my main focus was getting her out of the NICU. I pumped and then switched to FF around 10 weeks due to vomiting, which ended up being totally different issues.
This next baby I'm praying latches right away and we can have a normal BF relationship, I really want it to work out this time.
