Just curious! and you can vote multiple times if you have breastfed multiple kids!
And if you are an exclusive pumper like me, just vote and substitute the word "breastfeed" for "pump"!

First child was so much shorter than expected, and second child I met my goal!

Shorter than expected with G & this time I'd say P & I will definitely go longer than expected (original goal was 1 year & we're at 11 months no end in sight).

I originally envisioned 6 months as my goal. We're almost at 7 months right now at still breastfeeding. Next goal is 9 months.

Too soon to say for sure. But my goal is 1 year and at 3.5 months I don't see any reason why we won't meet that goal.

Shorter with DS and I think I will go longer with DD we are at 5 months now and she is a boobie monster. I now plan to go to at least 2 years old instead of my original goal of 1 year.

I never expected anything. I'll go as long as I have milk and she wants to! I have a feeling my supply will determine this as I cut down in pumping when we move in June.

I'm not sure yet!!! It's been a year thus far and I expected to make it sometime between 1-2 years. If I go past 2 years, it will be longer than expected, if I stop between now and 2 years it will be as expected.

Longer by just a couple of months. I planned for a year and got to 14 months.

I wanted to make it to one year, but now, at 6 months, I am happy to have made it this far! I am still pumping and BF at night and on weekends, but I am starting to day wean because I just can't keep this up.
ETA: My response would change if I was not a WOHM!

First child, much shorter than expected.
Second child, much longer...

I'm about what I expected. We just hit the 1 year mark, and that was my goal, though I hoped to go a little longer and so far so good. She is down to 2x day nursing sessions though, and is showing less and less interest in nursing these days.

I had mini goals: 1 month, 4 months, 6 months with a big goal of 1 year, and anything past that was lagniappe. 7 months in and I think we're on track to meet it!

I went much shorter than I expected. My goal was to get to six months and then a year. She got down to only nursing twice a day around 5.5-6 months and stopped nursing altogether at 6.5 months. She finished up her last bit of breast milk at 7 months old. I think I know what caused her to start to wean herself (and therefore why I dried out) so we can try to make it to a year next time.

Before Birth - Goal of 3-6 months
After Birth - Goal of 1 year, hoping to make it to age 2.
Actual - Nursed to 18 months.
So I met my goal but would have went longer.

My goal was 6 months, but I only lasted a week. but even for that week we weren't accomplishing much. It was beyond my control, but I still had a really hard time with not meeting my expectations.

I went in with no expectations. I would have loved to make it to a year but I just took it a week at a time. I EBF until I went back to work at 4 months. I just couldn't keep up a good pumping schedule at work. I felt like I was spending half the day away from my desk. We still BF at night and in the morning until a nursing strike at 9 months that we just never recovered from.

Shorter than expected. Hoping to be EBF until solids.
Reality - 3 months.

I knew I wanted to at least for a year and after that I figured we'd see how it went. If at 15 months he's still nursing I'm OK with that.
We are 8mo in and I love nursing but hate pumping 3x a day

I BF for 14m with DD, my goal was "at least a year"; stopped because DH was getting antsy about it and DD lost interest. Not sure how long I'll go with DS but my goal again is "at least a year" but ultimately I think I'd like to meet (if not exceed) how long I went with DD.

I wanted to make it to 6 months, but only made it to 6 weeks...but then pumped exclusively until 4.5 months.

Much longer than I expected. We are at 14.5 months and down to just one nursing session a day and he is starting to wean himself.
I'm glad he is the one making the decision and not me.

I am aiming for a 12-14 months and will definitely stop pumping at the 12 month mark. We are at 8.5 months right now and for the last couple of days I have mixed 4oz of formula into the 24oz of breastmilk that I leave for her when I am at work. She seems fine with it, so so far so good.

during pregnancy- goal was 6 months to a year

So I met my goal but would have went longer if I hadn't been considering going back to work.

I like how you included exclusive pumpers
My original goal was to breastfeed if possible for as long as possible. Then I became an exclusive pumper, and my goal started off at 3 months, extended to 6 months, and then just went with the flow month by month. I reached 13 months of exclusively pumping!

I voted longer but it was sort of a combo.
My initial cut off age was a year before DS was born. With all of his allergies it became 18 months and then I was going to try for 2 years but he self weaned at 21 months, so really it was a lot longer than I expected.

I had no expectation...I am at 6 months and happy with that. I'd like to go as long as I possibly can!

Dd almost 2 years and will probably go longer (longer than I planned).
DS I want to do a year but have a feeling I'll go longer. May even go 2 years with him. We shall see!

Being that I was afraid I won't be able to at all? I'm def going longer than what I thought... with that said, my next short term goal is 6 months (ds is 3.5 mths now), and long term goal is 1 year. I'd ideally like to be done by 18 months.
coconut / 8299 posts
First child, longer. Second child, looks like it will be shorter because my supply is dwindling! I wanted to go 12 months but I'll be lucky if I make it to 9 months.
cherry / 186 posts
Longer. I'm an ep-er and goal was 3 months (quit when I went back to work) dh asked me to try to make it to 6 months so I did and now I'm on month 7!
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22276 posts
My first goal (before she was born) was 6 months. When she was here, my goal became a year. Now we are just over 6 months, so I met my original goal. I plan to nurse up to 2 years, unless she weans before that.

My goal has always been a year, but before I had Liam I thought I'd wean when he was one. After I had him and read more about nursing past 12 mos, I thought I'd keep going as long as we both wanted to. I'm planning to stop pumping at 12 mos, but I'll continue nursing him after that. I'm not really sure how long we'll continue.

I expected 1 year, but my milk never came in, so I only fed her the small amount of milk that I produced for the first 3 months. We had to heavily supplement with formula the entire time, so we eventually just switched over to formula only.
