I currently have the max plan for Short Term Disability to cover maternity leave, costing me $112/month. (Edit: just double checked and it's $56/month).
I just had our 2nd and we are most likely done having babies (I'd like another, DH doesn't, not making any 'final' decision for another 2 years).
I'm leaning towards cancelling the plan but then I'm also terrified of an oops pregnancy (I'm on the mini-pill and bf'ing).
Wondering what others did after maternity leave?

@josina: I don't cancel but I do go down in my plan. Right now, it costs be 150 a month for the maximum payout. Once I have another (TTC next month) I will go down to the 44 dollar a month plan.

I've kept it. I will likely drop it in 2018. I had not been able to build up a PTO bank post baby to the point I felt like I had enough time saved should I need to be off work. Life happens and you never know when you might need an unplanned surgery.

No; I didn't even think about cancelling STD after pregnancy. Too many other reasons I might need it and wouldn't want to be without income for up to 26 weeks.
Then again, I don't pay $112/month for my coverage. That's a lot. Could you go down to a less rich, but cheaper plan?

@yoursilverlining: Thats another option, to just lower it. I originally signed up for the lowest plan at $24/month, I don't remember what the pay-out was though.
@MamaG: I actually have a coloscopy next month, maybe I should hold out till after that just in case!
Anyone know if the plan (Aflac) can be dropped at any time or just in the 60 day window after a life change? (Of course my rep isn't returning my calls/emails!)

I'm keeping mine, partially in case of another pregnancy, but also because I can use it for other medical needs. It is so little money for me (I have great benefits) and the cost is comparable for the potential gains if needed.

I'm keeping it. It never occurred to me to cancel it, but it costs nothing for me to have, and God forbid something happens and I would need it, I like knowing it's there.

I think I am planning on keeping mine after the birth. How much I pay depends on my salary, but if I had to pay over $100 a month I might reconsider.

I've kept it, but mine is $36 a pay period so $72 a month but that is for a life insurance plan and STD as a package
