I went on prenatal vitamins and I got my messed up teeth fixed.
Did you do anything or did you just start trying?

i plan on doing the same as @Rubies:
We are not TTC yet, but I'm struggling with the smoking part....I think once we decide that we are ready to TTC it will give me even more encouragement.
hostess / eggplant / 11068 posts
@MrsBrewer: That's exactly how it was for me. The second it was decided that we were going to start TTC, right then and there, I became a non-smoker. I encourage you!
coconut / 8854 posts
@Rubies: Thanks! Well it doesn't help that DH is one too, and we kind of do the opposite of encourage at this point. We are...I would say 2-3 years away from TTC and ugh....we just don't have the incentive right now. That sounds terrible doesn't it?! You would think money would be incentive enough! One day soon

I started taking prenatals and got all my doctors appointments taken care of (dentist, gynecologist, etc.) Also, I have an intestinal/colon disorder, so last fall I went to my gastroenterologist. I had a few tests done to make sure I was good to go for making babies (and I was, thankfully).

I started taking prenatals. Since we are on a TTC break while my husband produces new and better sperm I went ahead and had my wisdom teeth removed last Friday. I really should have done that years ago. I was worried I would finally get pregnant and then get an infection. So they had to go.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
@rubies wow, that's impressive! My mom says that's what she is going to do when she finds out she is going to be a grandmother. I hope she does.

I started drinking green smoothies every morning to increase my folate, started taking prenatals, went to the dentist and focused more on losing weight/getting my body healthy.
I also quit my job lol!

Started started taking a prenatal and went off birth control. We also took a big trip to Europe, which I didn't want to do while pregnant or with a baby.
persimmon / 1341 posts
Stopped birth control, started pre-natals, bought a different car and a new house. The last 2 (house and car) happened because we knew we didn't want kids in my small car and our small house/that far away from family. I wouldn't say it necessarily effected when we started TTC but it was definitely something we thought about and actively worked towards fixing during the TTC process.

I did a pregnancy pre-mester, which included acupuncture and herbs, beginning a folic acid supplement and cutting down on caffeine, which I ate more of than I drank, surprisingly.

Like Mrs. Bee, I started taking prenatals and got my teeth fixed, but that didn't help one tooth from chipping. I got a temp filling during the end of my 2nd trimester.

I got a physical and asked if I needed to do anything else and the doctor said no so I didn't!

I talked to my doc about it at my annual, and she got me some blood tests to see if I needed boosters. She also told me to be off the pill and on folic acid for 3 months before TTC, and I mostly followed that advice (couldn't wait and started trying in the 3rd month).

Started taking prenatals, and had bloodwork done to see if I had any genetic issues we needed to worry about.

We had a surprise pregnancy, so I didn't do anything to prepare!
persimmon / 1453 posts
No, it was a surprise for us!
Thankfully, I don't smoke, drink much, take meds, or use hormonal birth control. I also have a very clean, healthy diet and exercise regularly. I still kind of panicked about getting prenatal vitamins, though.

I gradually stopped taking most of my medication (there was a bucketload) and started taking prenatals. I also visited the naturopath, got a physical, and cut caffeine wayyyy down. I'm glad we started when we did; I think it took 6 months for me to get off my meds and for the pill to stop messing with my cycles.
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
Like @rubies, I quit smoking a couple of months before TTC (I chose to use patches for a few weeks).
I started prenatals when were actively TTC, but didnt get consistent in taking those until BFP.
grapefruit / 4187 posts
Well, I stopped taking my pill (lol) but also started taking prenatal vitamins and switched from coffee to green tea. I don't smoke and I've decided not to stop drinking until I find out I'm pregnant. I'm also going to go to my doctor soon to see what else I should be doing!

Stopped bc and started taking a prenatal. I've been taking the prenatal since August and just NOW realized I should be taking 3 a day, not one. DOPE. Anyway. Also cut down on caffeine and talked to my doctor about other medications I take (magnesium for migraines and melatonin for sleep). I also went to the dentist and got my x-rays done.

I started prenatal vitamins, cut down to almost no coffee, went to the doctors, got a lot of blood work done, and went to the dentist.

I started to take prenatals, and had my annual women's check up to make sure everything was good to start trying. I also stopped having my "social" smokes. I also started to cut out caffeine but didn't full stop until we got a positive.

I started taking prenatals and trying to cut down on my caffeine and increase my water intake. Still working on increasing the water intake one...
pea / 21 posts
I went to my annual check up and she said to start taking prenatals and begin charting. I have also started to scale back caffeine and alcohol intake.
pineapple / 12053 posts
Got off bcp (which I was on for over 10 years), started charting, went to my doctor for a checkup, started prenatals. I'm pretty active so just continuing my routine and get to BD during my fertile window!
persimmon / 1341 posts
I thought about this some more and remembered I talked to by doctor at my annual well woman check up and she did some lab work to make sure I was immune to something. If not, I would need a booster. I can't remember what it was though, MMR maybe? She always made sure I was current on my vaccines.

I also started taking prenatals and went to the dentist. I also tried to start eating better and have gotten a lot better with working out and my diet over the last year of TTC.

I talked to my doctor at my annual, got off bcp, started taking prenatals, continued working out and took a trip to Europe with my hubby.

Went to the dr, took prenatals, went to the dentist, got off bc and started saving money.
grapefruit / 4187 posts
Oh yes, I forgot the saving money part! We are trying to save enough to pay for 1.5 years of daycare in cash since I won't know exactly how much it costs until enrollment and I suspect we actually don't make enough to cover the monthly bill!
GOLD / wonderful pomegranate / 28905 posts
Yup, I started prenatals, started weaning myself of caffeine, got my wisdom teeth pulled. Did prelim bloodwork at OB to test for genetic issues I might be predisposed to because of family history or ethnicity.

Had my annual exam and asked my doctor a bunch of questions.
Cutting back on caffeine
Switched from multi vitamins to prenatal ones
Added Vitamin D pills per the doctor
So ready to start TTC next week!

I just came back from a "pre-conception" appointment with my OBGYN (she suggested having it). Honestly it felt mostly pointless. The most important thing I came out of it with is that I might be taking too many vitamins. I've been taking what she suggested a while ago, but subbed in Prenatals for the regular multivitamin.
I was actually pretty surprised she didn't make sure I knew the specifics like timing correctly for O... Disappointing! Hopefully other women do their research...
honeydew / 7589 posts
I've been on prenatals for a little over a month, got blood tests and urinalysis done (all is well!), cut back on the caffeine, and got to my ideal weight. Now I just need to schedule a dental appointment and a pelvic exam.
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
I've gone to my OBGYN, started taking vitamins plus folic acid, had lots of talks to DH about when to start, compared insurances during open enrollment and started on the one with the best prenatal & delivery coverage, made some job changes, and booked one more big trip. Still to go: take said trip, cut back my caffiene intake, and get in a better exercise routine.
