In addition to pumping just being a major PITA, I didn't have a super great environment for it. I share my office and the pumping room at work was also shared. There were two curtained off areas, but there was no back to them, so you faced a wall with a curtain on either side and your back to the opening. There was often more than one person pumping at the same time... which was just awkward. I also took wayyyyy more time than my allotted break time, which sometimes made me feel guilty. My boss is so hands off though that I don't think she even noticed all the time I spent away from my office. I am so so SO glad to be done pumping!

My situation is better than I expected (to the point where I thought having to pump at work would be one factor that would make me stop breastfeeding, but now I'm going to stick with it until a year). There's one room with an armchair and a fridge and an iPad. It's pretty nice, and luckily no one else is pumping right now, so I don't really have to share it.

I used to but I've gotten over it. I actually enjoy the break to just sit there and watch videos of DS and look at photos and HB too. It doesn't bother me that people know I pump. I used to feel weird about whipping my boobs out, but I've gotten over it. I use an unused office that stores some stuff. It actually requires a master key to get in, so I don't worry about anyone busting in there.

Not anymore, though it was definitely weird to be half-naked the first week or 2. I think my coworkers are a little more uncomfortable than I am. I pump in a shared room that has a door, and I put my pumping times on the door. Usually a coworker will ask "Are you using the room?" when they need it. I just think it's funny that they ask that instead of "Are you pumping anytime soon?" I do pump with my back to the door just in case someone walks in by mistake (no lock), and I think only 1 person has ever walked in on me in the last 8 months I've been doing this. And then she kept walking in and looking around for the thing she needed. Awkward!

Yea it's a little awkward because I work with almost all men. I go into an empty office but sometimes they gather around in that vicinity to talk because it is near the break room and when I come out with my milk jugs and pump parts I feel so awkward!!! But I bet it makes them just as uncomfortable. Washing my parts in the kitchen is also equally embarrassing, but I just have the attitude of "whatever, my baby needs to eat!"

I did at first (I teach as well and had MANY knocks on the door, etc), but after a few weeks I didn't. It's natural to feed a baby breastmilk and pumping is what gets the job done. I had a good setup and, even when I was walked in on, I felt covered and comfortable (A&A blankets hide *everything*!).

It was annoying/uncomfortable when people acted like my pumping was a nuisance to them. I knew my rights, was respectful & polite, but stuck to my bottom line: I am pumping milk for my child, get over it.

@matador84: @mewtill: I'm a teacher too and super worried about this. When did you find the time to do it? Did someone watch your class? We usually have meetings during planning 2-3 times a week so I don't even think I could depend on planning time.

@mrs. 64: I pumped during lunch and my planning, and again after school. I'm my state, my planning is "duty-free" and I can't be required to attend things, etc. of course I never made it difficult, I would just politely excuse myself.
