I only had 6 weeks, but we tried to go out a lot. It helped that it was FL. We brought her to DH's restaurant (at a resort) whens he was a week and a few days old and someone yelled at us! I was like cool it lady, she's staying in her carrier, I'm not letting people touch her. My mom was great about making us get out and about. I think it helps although my lady parts area got really sore walking around a lot, that was my only complaint.

@heartonastring: I know Maybe we will still connect at some point though! It's nice just knowing there is another HB mama close by!

We go out every day. Some days it was just a walk, other days it was to the mall or visiting friends. Even when it was -30C. I had to get out or I would have lost my mind.

We went out a lot together while my husband was on leave, then alone I did small trips (Target) until I figured things out and could handle venturing out more.

Pretty much every day since she was 2 days old. She came unexpectedly and we were really low on groceries. My husband couldn't take off any time for the first week, so at 2 days old she was out grocery shopping with me. We at least get out for a walk every day. My husband was on holidays last week so I left her with him for the walk for a few days as it was crazy icy here. I noticed it was a lot harder to get her to sleep at night. As soon as he went back to work and she was out with me during the day, she's back to bed early now.
I mean we don't do a lot of super fun things, but we get out.

I go out everyday, even if it's only to the grocery store but we're usually meeting up with someone. I have a year off though - I would die of boredom if I didn't go out. Plus I think it's good for my mental health.

Had to, or else I would have LOST MY MIND. It took me about three weeks to get in the groove of taking them both out at the same time by myself, but then we would go to the mall to walk a lot- they were born two days before Thanksgiving, so it was still a bit cold and wet to go outside on long walks.

Yes, we've definitely been out! Even though LO was born mid-January, we went out to lunch several times, errands here and there, and now that's it's warming up a *little* we've been going on walks, too.

For the first 3 months or so, I made Wednesdays my 'going out' days - I forced myself to go somewhere just to get out of the house.
Now that she's 6.5 months, we go out probably 3 times a week or so.

Bumping for any recent experiences! I'm due June 5, so have the whole summer off

@dc yoga bee: you might find it easy to get out in the nice summer weather, and the sun might have a positive effect on your mood. DS was born in October, when the days were gloomy and short. We only started going out regularly maybe at 3 months. It's better now with longer days. We go out most days, even if it's just to walk to the shops and back. I love it when he falls asleep in the stroller and I can sit on a park bench and read/eat for a while.

I didn't go out much the first month, but after that we went out 4-5 times a week for the rest of my 4 months off. This was from July-mid November.

I don't go out much with just her. I would love to go for jogs but she hates strollers.. And I can't walk my dogs with her because my German shepherd mix is too much to handle with a baby strapped to me. I had planned to do library activities but I'm so anti social I prefer just playing at home with her...

Yes, a lot! The kid went shopping with us before he was a week old (but I freaked out halfway and made DH go home because I didn't know it's normal for babies to fall asleep the second they get outside). And he went to his first restaurant at two months. But once my leave ended, we had a really tough child care situation and didn't go out at all for months.

DD was born in June so I took her out all the time! It really made a huge difference to my days.

I could not stand being cooped up at home, I'd go nuts. We brought my daughter home and took her to the dog park the next day. Then we just went about our lives, shopping and eating out and such. As much as we had the energy for. But I can't imagine just sitting at home staring at the baby.

Yes we went out! I waited until she was 4-6 weeks old to really do a lot though, mostly because I was FTM and because it was cold/flu season.

LO is 3 weeks and we have already gone out a ton. He had multiple ped appts in the first week. After that, I had to take him with me to run errands (DH can't do baby care solo). I also take him to DH's physical therapy appointments twice a week. I don't have any family nearby to babysit. Luckily he is fine once he has his initial car seat freakout. He normally sleeps through everything unless we're out long enough that he needs a feeding.

Yes I went out a lot. The weather was nice in the beginning and then HOT, but we went to the mall, library, restaurants etc.

We went out tons. I'm in canada and mat leave here is a year so I definitely had to find some constructive things to do. We did baby groups several times a week, a mom and baby yoga class, stroller fit and lots of trips to zoos and parks with the moms I met in baby group. Also tried to do our daily errands but grocery shopping would usually be done with DH because it was easier with 2. I would do quick shops for a few items but our big shops were tough alone.

I was out all the time. He was on the subway at 4 days old to go to a doctors appointment and after that we were out almost every day! Sometimes just a walk or short trip to the coffee shop, but something.
