I went to nursery school or daycare for a little while when I was 3, but I never went to preschool. Did you go to preschool? Are you planning on sending your LO to preschool?

I did! Not sure if we'll be sending our LOs to preschool though. If we can find a great program, then we probably will!

Nope - I went straight to kindergarten. But for LO, I will try to put her in preschool.

I did, and lo will go too. Shell go part time at first though.

Yep and I actually still go everyday now Obviously, as a preschool teacher, I think its really important. And DH and I met in preschool so the topic is pretty sweet for us.

I did. In french though. But as of kindergarden I went to english school

Yup. It was my first experience away from my Mom. Our lo will just stay in daycare until Kindergarten.

I did. For 3 years! And I hated it! My parents started me really early because of a traumatic event in my life when I was 3.

I never did. I went straight to kindergarten. We haven't decided if we would send LO, yet. I can see how it would be beneficial, though, and have been looking into co-op programs in the area.

Wait, is there a difference between preschool and nursery school? I've always used those terms interchangeably. I went to one or the other starting when I was 3. It was only a few days a week. The rest of the time I was home w/ my mom.

Nope. My mom had a playgroup for me, but otherwise, it was straight to kindergarten.

Yep, my Mom sent me because I was super busy, she was a SAHM with 2 younger kids, and I was driving her crazy (LOL), having me out of the house, and learning give her some time to get things done, and kept her and me sane!

I did, 1 day a week the year before I went to school. LO will probably stick with daycare as it offers educational aspects to the older kids.

I didn't. My mom claims they told her I was too smart to go since I already knew how to write my name and other stuff like that. I think she lied and she just didn't try to take me, ha!

I went to nursery school in the Philippines and I'm not sure what the difference is to pre-school. It was a Catholic school and had to wear a uniform. Formal classes were taught by nuns and we had field trips and school plays (which I don't remember but have pictures of).

I did - I went to a Christian preschool part time for a couple years before kindergarten. DH went to a Montessori preschool and he loved it. I definitely want to send our kids to Montessori preschool, though not full-time if I can help it... I think its good for kids to have free time before going to school every day.

I went to preschool and loved it! I'd love to send our LOs to preschool, but I guess it depends on what the $$ is when that time comes also.

Yes, and I learned how to speak English there so good thing I went I guess! DD is definitely going to preschool.

I went to Montessori and LOVED it. I have very fond memories from there. We're thinking about sending Little Jacks to Montessori too, although we are exploring other options to be thorough.

@Mrsbells: Here preschool is a lot less "structured." I've taught both preschool and kindergarten. In preschool, kids have about 2 hours a day (during a 6-hour day) to "play." The thought is that young children learn through play, so they have centers (dramatic play, science, manipulatives, etc.) in which they play (usually with friends, sometimes alone). Kindergarten is so much more intense now than when we were in school. Kindergarteners go through assessments earlier and its a lot more of sitting at your desk and listening to the teacher talk than preschool.

I didn't go to preschool. My stepmom kept me home and taught me. When I entered kindergarten I could already read and write.

@lilteacherbee: Thanks for explaining that, I never knew there was a difference.
I think I went to preschool but it may have been , kindergarten, I'm not sure. I've always used those two words interchangeably

Yes, I went to Montessori for pre-school and Kindergarten then straight into First Grade. I hope to do the same with our little one when the time is right.

Yes, we lived in a very small town, so they were only available through churches, and my parents weren't religious. I think it was very good exposure to the rest of the world for us. My husband went to preschool for a little while, but hated it so my MIL took him out when his sister was born.
We are definitely planning on sending him to a preschool of some sort, just not sure what yet. I think it is very helpful socially prior to starting kindergarden since we aren't using daycare.

Yes I went to a local preschool so it would help me meet some of the kids that would be in my kindergarden class (small town.) We will do the same with our kids.
My nieces goes to Montessori & it is night and day from when she started. She's really grown up & learning a lot.
