I'm in love with maternity and newborn photoshoots. They are so cute but for more than $500, I'm not sure if it is in my budget.
Did you get them? Would you do it again... for your next child?

We did a maternity shoot and planned on a newborn one but ended up liking the pics that the hospital photographer took so nixed the newborn one from the fancy photog, I think they are wonderful momentos. If you are worried about budget, do you know anyone who is a talented photog who can take some pics for you? I bet you can get some great shots anyway.

I kind of regret not doing a maternity shoot since I didn't take too many photos of my pregnant self. I figure we can just save up for a professional family photo shoot instead, which we will be sure to cherish forever.
Oddly enough, I think I'm one of the few who did not let the hospital photographer take pictures of my LO. I wasn't in the mood, and I wanted to let him peacefully sleep without being disturbed. My husband did take some amazing photos with his fancy camera, and I love seeing those hospital shots.

My husband has a professional camera and used to do photography on the side when he was younger, so we just took pics at home.
I didn't do maternity shots though. Felt too fat and gross (gained 50+ pounds).. definitely do not regret it!

I did my own maternity shots for my son...this time around a friend who's a Pro photographer will take them...but i'm SO pregnant right now I'm totally not looking forward to it

I wish I had done maternity shoots, but I too felt fat and ugly. And most of the time I felt too lazy to go do it. If I get pregnant again I will drag myself and get it done. All these sites like groupon have photo packages that are great deals!

i hate doing photo shoots but i force myself to otherwise i'd have no pictures of myself. no matter how fat or ugly you feel, it won't look that way on camera. i was 40 pounds heavier when i took my charlie maternity pics (and i'm only 5 foot 2), but you can't really tell in the pictures!
you can find someone more inexpensive than $500 to do a good job. definitely recommend doing them because it's such a special time in your life!
as far as a newborn shoot, i really wanted to do one, but olive hates being cold so much that the hospital photographer couldn't get any shots of her out of her swaddle blanket. i think i'll just take some shots myself. once they get past that sleepy newborn stage, the pics just aren't as cute!

I didn't do a maternity shoot and kind of regret it. We did do a newborn shoot, and I'm glad we did because I love looking back at how small our LO was. Also, we forgot to take family photos after he was born, so from the photoshoot we also got our first family photo!
As far as price, I'm sure you can find someone more inexpensive than $500. We were able to find great photographers for under $200 (and this is in the Bay Area) and they also gave us a disc of the images. The trick is to find someone who is never in the field, but who still has a style you really like.

Nope, because never in my life do I feel more UNattractive and UNhealthy than when I am pregnant! I take belly photos of myself with my DSLR, and that's sufficient for me.
We also chose not to do professional newborn pictures, because (and this is purely personal; we do not look down on anyone who does) we prefer the everyday, casual shots over posed photos of babies because those creep us out a bit.

I am not planning on having maternity shots done - I am so stinking uncomfortable in front of the camera. But I do want to have newborn/3/6/12 month photos done & think I will see if we can't have some family ones done during the newborn/12 month shoot as well.

I didn't get maternity pictures done, but we had newborn pictures done in the hospital. They came to my hospital room, and we were able to look at the proofs and get the CD of images the same day.

YES! And I'm soooo in love with them. One of my besties is an extremely talented photographer, and is letting me barter my session and prints for graphic design work. I ended up "purchasing" over $3000 worth of goods. And I'm so glad I did!! I cannot wait to get them in. She sent me a few of the photos for me to blog, I think they may convince you to make the investment

And if you're wondering what 3 grand gets you, I got 6 giant prints (30"x40") a brag book, and some 8x10's for our parents. I also got a disk of low-res watermarked images for blogging/facebook/computer backgrounds. You could def. do a session for much less.

We didn't do a maternity shoot, I just had my hubby take belly pictures of me every 2 weeks. I think it would have been nice to have pro pics, but we just didn't have the money, and the plan was to put it towards a newborn shoot since I'd rather have pictures of the actual baby.
My sister ended up gifting us a newborn photoshoot. She bought us the actual shoot and 3 pictures. If we wanted any more pictures it was still $40 a picture, so we still ended up having to pay a lot. But I do love our pictures! I'm just sad we can't get them done more often now that she's growing and changing all the time.

We didn't do a maternity shoot, and I really regret that. I don't have many pictures of my pregnant belly, and there's only a handful of photos of DH & I during my pregnancy.
We did do newborn photos, though, and I lovelovelove them. I would do it again in a heart beat!

We are planning on doing both for this pregnancy. The photographer who did our wedding pics (that we absolutely loved) is primarily a maternity/newborn and family photographer, and I can't wait for her to do our pictures.

Doing a maternity session is something I am looking forward to when I am pregnant. I also want to do newborn photos as well.
