Did you have to repeat testing for #2+?

I know I can probably call our RE but I thought I would check with the ladies here first. Plus I'm not 100% sold on our timeline yet.

We are unexplained (probably PCOS) and had a successful cycle with IUI + Follistim. DS turns 3 at the end of March and we are trying to decide when to go back to the RE for #2. Since it has been so long I'm wondering if I will have to go through testing again or if I can just jump right in to what worked for us.

Did anyone have to go through an HSG and cycle testing? Did your DH have to have another SA done?

I'm not sure about the tests you mentioned since I haven't had #1 yet. Did you have to get any std tests done before your IUI? I did before IVF and at my RE's office they make you redo that test every year.

@KT326: Dunno how helpful this is, but I will be in the same situation as you in a year or two, and I imagine they'll have me repeat many of the tests for insurance purposes.

I'm not sure about your exactly scenario since we are still working on #1 now too, but if you have insurance for IF, you may also want to check if they require diagnostic testing for IF treatment coverage. My RE office mentioned that since we have been trying for over a year with them now.

@Leialou: All the std testing was done during my initial blood work with my first RE. Since I get it done every year during my pap I'm not sure if my RE will want to do it again.

@ineebee: @PurplePumps: If I'm still at my current job, I have some IF coverage for treatments ($10k max, need to find out how much I have left) and all testing is covered. I'm not so worried about the financial aspect of it yet, but if we need testing done again I would rather start that earlier rather than later.

@raintreebee: how old is your LO? We were initially going to go back to the RE when DS was one, then it turned into two and now he is going to be three! I'm getting antsy to try again but DH is still uncertain.

i didn't have to have an hsg or any cylce monitoring again but i did have to do all the blood work over. we still ended up using the same protocol as we did with lo#1.

@KT326: I went back to my RE for #2 when LO was about a year. They did some basic bloodwork including the STD tests like @Leialou: mentioned, but otherwise no repeat HSG and no SA for DH (although we were doing a frozen embryo transfer, so really no need for that this time around).

@jmarionsmith: I'm really hoping I don't have to do an HSG again. It was so painful the first time. I imagine I will have to do the blood work again. Hopefully that is it and we can jump right in when we are ready!

@KT326: He is almost one. I am really not sure we are ready for #2, but I am almost 37 so figure it's now or possibly never. Such a hard decision though! We have a consult scheduled for next week. I am with you--I hope not to do the HSG again (I doubt I will since we will jump straight to IVF, which you don't need tubes for). I assume we will have to do STD testing again. I'll let you know what I find out next week!

Back in the stirrups again....

So we had our RE appt today. Our plan is to do a couple cycles of timed intercourse then straight to IVF in March/April. An ultrasound confirmed endo was still there (my ovaries are stuck to my uterus so that is why the RE can "see" the endo on ultrasound, although we aren't 100% sure of the diagnosis without a lap). I also still have lots of eggs despite my old age. This is important since they don't seem to be of great quality--it took about 38 of them to produce my son.

We had to re-sign all of the consent forms. We also have to do STD testing. And another sperm analysis. And bloodwork. Supposedly these "expire" after a year, perhaps under NY state law? I don't have to get another pap under the new 3 year rule but opted to get one. We don't have to go through injectables training again. And no HSG. I think that about covers it.

It was weird. I felt like I had just been at the clinic since it felt so comfortable, but it's been 20 months. I also didn't have the same feeling of misery/anxiety about it not working as I did the last go round because now I am a mom. This time, we've also decided not to tell anyone in real life about our attempts. I kind of want this experience to be more "normal" and private. And I don't want to get our parents' hopes up if it doesn't work out.

@raintreebee: Best of luck to you as you try for #2! I can echo your sentiments at how strangely comfortable it was to be back at the RE after having #1. I can also understand the wish for "normal"

@KT326: When we went back to the RE, it had been over a year and so we had to redo the bloodwork, I needed my latest pap results, I had to have another saline sonogram to check my insides out after having a baby (WAY easier than an HSG) and I believe that was it. Nothing for my husband besides the bloodwork. Taking care of all of that took about a month, but then we were back to it and now I'm 14 weeks pregnant with #2.

@KT326: Forgot to mention, we did IUI/injectibles to conceive our first. And returned to the same protocol for #2.

@raintreebee: Good luck! I think we also want to keep it quiet for the next one. I'm still mourning the fact that we didn't get to tell anyone surprise we are pregnant since they all knew we were going through treatments.

@sweetooth: thanks for replying! It's good to know you were able to go straight to the same protocol for #2.
