I was reading something about Kourtney Kardashian and she "pulled out" both of her babies towards the end of her labor. I can't imagine being able to bend like that and I think I would be scared of hurting the baby! Did anyone on HB here "pull out" their own baby?

@shopaholic: no.. But I had a csection, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't an option..
Although, If I had a regular delivery I'm not sure I would have wanted to..

No I did not and I don't think I would have wanted to.

No. If I'd delivered DD at home in the water like I wanted, I would have. One of my major goals for future LOs is to be the first person to touch them, and to have control over who takes them and when.

No but I wish I did! Her births look so peaceful & free of complications.

No...Labor was so surreal. Like it felt real, but also kind of like an out of body/dreamlike experience for me. I wouldn't have trusted myself, I guess? Without knowing what to expect and feeling sort of dazed (They had to wake me up to push bc they could see her head, and I was still a little sleepy). And now that I've had one and know what to expect, I still wouldn't want to bc when they placed H on me, she was super slippery, and of the 1 billion things going through my head as her huge blue eyes stared at me like "Wtf just happened?!?", I remember being so scared she would slip out of our hands!!!

I had a c-section so it wasn't an option, but my midwife told me at one of my prenatal appointments that after the head was out she would let DH pull the rest of him out if he wanted. DH wasn't sure if he would have wanted to or not, but we were kind of glad for the option!

No but my delivery was so quick i did have a moment where I thought I might have to. I did yell more than once, "Somebody get down there! I can feel here head!"

No. I agree with labor and delivery being surreal. When he slid out and they showed him to us, I had a total deer in headlights face. I was also worried at the time because they were about to call in a bunch more doctors in case he didn't pop out right after the last push. Instead, he arrived with the attending doctor helping out in between a shift change.

@PrincessBaby: @cascademom: EXACTLY! definitely surreal with deer in the headlights. I barely felt able to hold him right after, no way could I have pulled him out!

I didn't catch her, but I might think about it for the next one. I'm kind of tossing around the idea of a homebirth for our next bebe, so we'll see.

It sounds cool but I think I would have had to be positioned differently. I was happy to have her right after and be laying down. I'm sure they help you, I was shaky while I was pushing so I'd be afraid of dropping her.

It's interesting no one here has done it! I think if I had the adrenaline rush during, it would be a really cool experience! But in reality, I don't think I could handle it!

I have absolutely no desire to pull the baby out...I think that would freak me out too much!!

I saw a video of her doing this - on the show maybe? I don't remember. It didn't look that hard! In one of my childbirth books they say it's totally natural to reach for the baby as it's coming out. And it doesn't seem like it would take any acrobatics.. if you can reach your hands down there (even if you can't see), you can pull it out
Either way I likely won't be doing this.

No, I had a c-section, but I asked my doctor if I could (if I delivered vaginally) and he said no! I think if I'm able to have a vbac, I'll have to find another doctor anyway and I might request it.

No! I had a surprise induction, was in labor for more than 24 hours, hadn't eaten in 32 hours, was exhausted annnnnd my epidural wore off just before I started pushing (it took a solid hour to push LO out). So no, I was in no condition to try to catch my baby girl!

I actually did. I had a med free birth and the doctors told me to reach down and pull him up, so I did! I wasn't planning on it but it was amazing and I'm so glad I was able to experience it.

I was on my side during delivery & had a gown and everything else on so I couldn't really get "there". Given we get to stay home next time, DH will likely "catch" the bebe.

If I have a water birth I might think about it next time but I will probably just have dh catch
