Did you see your placenta after giving birth? I really wanted to but I wasn't given the opportunity!

I saw mine. My husband says I asked to see it but I don't remember. Haha. It just looked like a big clump of bloody tissue.

Yep! We have a picture of it if anyone's interested in seeing what it looks like! HAHA

If my placenta and I never meet each other, that's really okay.
Ever since that chick had a placenta smoothie on Pregnant in Heels, I want nothing to do with placentas.

Nope, they don't let you see it during a c-section at my hospital. I know that for sure. I wouldn't have wanted to see it anyway. I'm kind of grossed out by that kind of stuff.

Yes. I asked to see it. Even though it's kind of gross, I wanted to see the organ that my body built up from scratch to take care of the baby.

We saw it. I didn't really want to, but my Dr. was inspecting it at the end of the bed. It was actually pretty cool!

No, and I'm kind of glad. I heard the "splat" it made when the doctor put it in the pan and got really grossed out.

i think i did but the memory is already so hazy! my placenta detached and i delivered it at the same time olive came out. i seriously forgot. i'll have to ask mr. bee.

I'm amused by the "eww, placenta is gross" comments. I don't find it gross.

He showed me the first time but I had a different doc the second time and he simply told me it was a great healthy placenta.

Yeah, I asked to once it was out and he was checking it. It was pretty cool!

I have seen enough of them during deliveries I attend in NICU - they all look the same, and aren't particularly attractive (I actually think they are pretty ugly!). I had no desire to see mine, but I think DH took a peek.

no and i wanted to (but i was passed out and didn't even see the baby)

They asked if I wanted to and I said no, but then I changed my mind and asked them to show me. I'm glad I did, although now I barely remember it!

My doula asked if I wanted to see it, at first I said no, then I changed my mind and it was pretty cool. Looked very placenta-y.

I did with DS. The cord wasn't attached very well, and the doctor had to manually remove the placenta. Afterward, he showed it to us and explained exactly what had happened and why.

yup, it was hard not to stare when dr pulled it out and started inspecting it, high enough for me to see. after getting the baby out, seeing the placenta didn't seem like a big deal. even though i was under the epidural and didn't feel the pain, getting sewed up and watching him tug the needle was way more unnerving.

@autumnlove: I'll have to dig it up.. will email it later!

Yeah I was excited about it & asked to see it. My doc gave me a mini anatomy lesson Haha.

I'm planning on it! It's not every day you get to see one of your own home-grown organs!

No and I had no desire to see it. My sister looked and said it was a giant purple bloody looking purse? I have seen pictures of others placentas and have no desire to see my own.

@chopsuey119: I want to see! Didn't you also take a picture of your mucous plug? LOL
My DH saw mine and he said it was really nasty. He said it looked like a giant bloody deflated balloon.

I did the first time but not the second since I had a c-section... they didn't even give me the option lol!

@autumnlove: @chopsuey119 omg you two!! Lol
No, I did not. My husband accidentally saw it, though. He was walking back to my side and it was sitting on the counter. He said it was quite gross.

@chopsuey119 - hahaha you crack me up! i can't believe you're volunteering to show us pics of your placenta! thanks but ummm no thanks no offense or anything, i'm sure your placenta is beautiful.

I didn't want to. I ended up having a csection so I don't think it would've been an option anyway.
kiwi / 658 posts
no but i wanted too! dr never asked me either. 2nd time around i'm going to request it!
