Going back to work in 2 weeks! Did you make sure your pumping needs would be met before you went back or just show up and make arrangements then?
My work doesn't have a pumping room or anything like that and I don't have my own office.

I asked about it, and my boss said she would look into it, but she didn't I pumped in the bathroom the first time and it was awful. The room was cold, everyone could hear, and I had to balance everything on my knees as I sat on the toilet. However, a friend of mine had been working on clearing out a storage closet for me, so now I pump there. It's warm, mostly quiet (I'm next to someone's office) and the door locks.
Definitely talk to someone at work prior to your first day. I would have a copy of your states Breastfeeding and pumping laws handy in case there is any pushback. My boss asked me why the bathroom wasn't good enough, and I was able to say that our state required a room other than a bathroom be provided unless there was due hardship.

I emailed HR and let them know I would need a room. I think my boss had already asked for me but I never discussed it with him. I'd do it now so they have some time to prepare. I even did a practice session in the office the week before I went back since I chose to attend a meeting. That made me feel much better about the first day.

I asked to get a lock on my office door when I left. I'd ask before you go in.

Yes and I had the option to reevaluate after a week to see what worked and what didn't.

Definitely! It's awkward enough to do through email, I would hate to deal with that added stress my first day back.

Our work has a mother's room, but a week before I returned, I e-mailed HR to find out the details of how to schedule my time and get into the room and stuff.

I looked into my options and was pleasantly surprised. Our building had 3 nursing rooms.

I let my boss know but I have my own office and only needed to pump on my break time so it was a non issue

I didn't do anything, but I have my own office that locks. I basically just said on my first day back that if the door is closed, it's because I'm pumping and I'll be done in a few minutes. I usually review documents on the computer while I pump and we have an internal IM system so if they need me urgently, they can message me and I'll see it. If I didn't have this setup, I definitely would have arranged things in advance though.

I inquired before I left for maternity leave and followed up with HR the week before I returned to work.
