I took the bus for a year. It was the year I played the cello. -.- Pain in the butt lugging that thing up on the bus.
My LOs won't be taking the bus. Will yours?

I walked my ass to school! Up hill both ways! Barefoot!
My kids will be walking to school.

I was homeschooled! No bus for me! The first time I ever rode on a bus was when I had to take a shuttle to my college classes, lol.
I'll probably take them to school, or they can walk!

Nope, the only time I ever rode the bus was for field trips or when I was on the high school tennis team. My mom took me in elementary school and then from middle school until I got my license in 11th grade, I rode with a family friend who was a teacher.

I took the bus one year (and didn't like it). Then I walked to school every year after that.

I took the bus and I hated it! I'm not sure what my LOs will do.

Yes, I took the bus and hated every minute of it! I was so glad that I didn't have to take it once I could drive. If our future kids hated the bus, I would definitely drive them to school and pick them up.

I believe in the school bus. But personally, I rode my bike to school most days until I got my first car.

I took the bus until I got my license. Most children do where I am from. Where we are now we live too close to the school for the bus to get them so I'll be walking our kiddos. If we move though, I'm definitely sending them on the bus! I am way to paranoid to have them walk...I never even had to walk to a bus stop.

I took the school bus from grade 4-10 and loved it. My parents made sure I got my license 11 grade though since the district began charging $75 each trimester to take the bus.

I did for part of elementary school and most of middle school. Shoot, the year I played the saxophone I wished there was a bus to take because that 20 minute walk lugging that thing was brutal on my tiny behind!
If we continue living where we do, or in pretty much the same area there won't be a need for our LOs to take the bus.

Rode the bus from K-3rd grade, and I hated it (we were the last stop in the morning and no one would share a seat with me.) In 4th grade, you could almost see the school from our yard, so I walked (in blizzards! Northern North Dakota was fun for me.) After 4th grade, I was homeschooled.

Yup! From Kindergarten until I got my license. I hated it but there was no getting around it. We lived in the country. Our daughter will unfortunately ride the bus, too.

I never took the bus to school. Our house was close to my grade school, jhs, and to the hs , so I had to walk.

No, there was never a bus option. My mom or dad had to drive me. LO won't be able to take a bus either. I'll have to drive her.

@Boogs: I decided to play the tuba for that very reason. I didn't want to carry an instrument home every day, all my friends had geeky baskets on their bikes to carry their clarinet. My tuba was too big for that.
I lived walking distance too all my schools so I walked, rode my bike, or got a ride from a friend.
We live walking distance to elementary school now, so lo will walk.

Yep...during elementary school before my mom started working... I remember one time... I ran during a rainstorm so I wouldn't miss it, made it to the bus stop, and then slipped and fell into a huge puddle right before the first step onto the bus. All that rushing for nothing...

Grew up in the middle of nowhere, so everyone road the bus until you got your license. My ride to elementary school was 30 minutes and 45 minutes to MS and HS. Again, middle of NOWHERE :o)
We live less than a mile from the Elementary, Middle and High schools where our LO would go, so we'd probably walk. It's a crazy concept to me!

@artbee: So how did you actually get the tuba home?
We are walking distance, too, probably under half a mile. Come to think of it, I don't think buses are an option around here.

I took it to jr high...I'm not sure what LO will do in the future.

Yep, rode the bus from JK right through 'till my sister got her license and a car in High School. It was rare to get a ride, but that was always the best because you could watch an extra cartoon in the morning before school.
Based on our district, our LO will be taking the bus from JK to Grade 3, then walking from Grade 4 on since we're so close to the school.

@Boogs: they let me keep an old crappy tuba at home to practice.

During grade school I went to a private school and no bus system so I had to be dropped off. For HS I had to take the bus and I lived out in the country so it was an hour bus ride with all the stops and even had to transfer bus's. Ugh I was so glad when I got my driver license!
Our future LO's will prob have to take the bus.
GOLD / wonderful grape / 20289 posts
@Boogs: yes, but I didn't think ahead. It was easy in midnight school, but in high school I had to march around with 50 pounds on my shoulders which sucked.

I lived outside if town, so I took the bus for all of school. It was usually a 15 min wait after school ended and another 15 min to get home. For our kids, it will depend on which school we send them to. The french immersion is just down the street but the english school is a very short bus ride away.
grapefruit / 4681 posts
Nope. AM bus ride was over an hour even though the school was 10 minutes away. I got super car sick. PM bus ride was also long, but I left school early for figure skating practice, so I wasn't there to take the bus anyway.
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
No. We lived too close to my school to get a school bus. I used to be jealous of the students who took the bus.
