Yes, but I also threw up almost every day of pregnancy - I've heard it's more likely to happen if you had bad morning sickness.
There really isn't any point in brainstorming coping mechanisms, I hate throwing up too and would cry every time, even though I was doing it daily it never changed how much I hated and dreaded it. But my big fear is needles - like to the point that I hyperventilate and pass out when someone tries to stick me with one, and I never had a single blood test done my whole pregnancy. But during labor I was begging for an IV and an epi, and this passes out at needles girl seriously did not give a shit because it was nothing compared to the contractions. If you do throw up, I promise you'll be much more focused on the contractions than the vomiting. Try your best to not even waste time worrying and stressing about this.

I didn't throw up during labor. I had horrible morning sickness, so I'm actually a little surprised it didn't happen. However, I did throw up the next day, but I think that was a reaction to the pain killers.

Twice. Yes. once around hour 12 after my contractions started coming without any break.. And again around hour 20 when they have me pitocin to speed things up.

Yep. Went through transition before my epidural. Didn't even feel it coming. Just hurled. Felt totally normal right after

No, I never felt nauseous. I guess in retrospect I felt off somehow the day my water ended up breaking, but I never felt queasy after that.
clementine / 828 posts
No, but I did get nauseous while laboring down, and had some zofram in my iv.
cantaloupe / 6059 posts
Nope, and I was extremely grateful for that. I had figured I might since I was so nauseous during the pregnancy but during my 36 hour labor it was the least of my concerns!

Yes! I threw up a few times until I got the epidural. Then when they took me off it I threw up a bunch of times. I was dry heaving because I didn't have anything left in my stomach. The anesthesiologist said something about stimulation of the vagus nerve during contractions caused the nausea.

I did with my first (5 times during active labour) and not at all with my second (my labour was about 2 hours total with her though!). It wasn't a big deal at ALL except my mouth tasted bruuutal after, and all we had was gum (that wasn't allowed) so I advise you to pack some mouthwash LOL!

Yes, while waiting to get checked in at the triage/reception area and another time during labor. I really grossed my husband out during labor. I remember him walking away from the bed when I got sick. It's no big deal though. I wished that I would have eaten more before coming home. Food after I came home from work didn't stay in my system that night.
GOLD / wonderful grape / 20289 posts
No. I was scared of that, getting the shakes, and pooing. But none of it happened to me.

Nope, this girl has a serious phobia (can't even say it !) I made it through all 3 pregnancy/ deliveries.

@littlecasita1122: @StbHisMrs: I have a serious phobia as well and morning sickness/getting sick during labor freak me out. No kids yet, but relieved to see others with a similar phobia made it through!!

I barfed right before we threw in the towel for a c-section and I barfed during the section. (The new CRNA didn't believe me that I needed some Zofran 10 minutes ago!)

@StbHisMrs: @IRunForFun: that's pretty much why I'm asking the question/doing the poll. I have a serious vomit phobia and made it through pregnancy (well, to 35 weeks, anyway!) with no vomit, now I'm seeing labour as a kind of last hurdle!! My husband thinks if I do barf it will be good for me as I'll clearly have more pressing things on my mind and it might be good to just do it (I haven't been sick in 20 years, vomit free since 93, shout out to Ted moseby). I don't agree.

No, but I felt like I was going to right as DS was coming out. Never did though.

It makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one who worries about this! So far (29 weeks) I've had terrible nausea but never actually vomited. Really hoping I can make it through to the end without that happening!

I started to feel really queasy, but then the I got the epidural and the pain and queasy feeling went away.

@lovehoneybee: You're not an anomaly - sounds a lot like my experience!
I threw up with literally every. single. contraction. It was so, so awful. I was extremely dehydrated as a result, and I would chug water, which just intensified it when a contraction hit. But like others said, it was nothing compared to the pain of the contractions.
@wonderstruck: I've never heard that! I had morning sickness until 18 weeks, so I guess that makes sense that I vomited my entire active labor.
nectarine / 2765 posts
Nope! Very thankful about this since I'm pretty prone to feeling nauseous.
pomegranate / 3759 posts
I did after I got stitched up. Dr said it was from the medicine they gave me to stop my post partum hemorrheging. It was only a crap load of water though!

@Mrs. Pen: Ugh, I'm so sorry you had a similar experience, but I'm glad I'm not alone! And yeah, it was with every contraction! They had me on a fluids IV for hours after I delivered because of it.
Pro tip: If you even have an inkling that you might be in labor soon, probably avoid Chinese food.
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@lovehoneybee: yeah I had a saline drip too. After awhile the OB finally told the nurses not to let my have any more water because it was just making it worse! So they upped my IV instead. I still passed out after delivery though; I think it was due to many factors but I'm sure the dehydration played a role.
ETA: my mom said to also avoid any rich, savory dinner. She had a steak/potatoes dinner just a couple hours before having my sister and regretted it! lol! I knew I was being induced that day and ate yogurt, granola and frozen fruit bars.
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
@Mrs. Pen: My mouth and throat were so dry and I was desperate for water but they told me I wasn't dehydrated because of the IV. They told me I couldn't have water and could only have ice chips (which were nice, but not what I wanted). I kept letting them melt enough to get a sip of water, and D kept sneaking water into the cup when the nurses left the room
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21616 posts
@lovehoneybee: thankfully I was allowed water, until the OB noted that it was just making the vomiting worse! If I hadn't been allowed any water at all I would have been miserable.
pomegranate / 3438 posts
Yup. Before the epi I was having contractions with no breaks. I tried a narcotic to take the edge off until the anesthesiologist could get there and it made me sick. Then I threw up after he was out and I was delivering the placenta.

@Lindsay05: Same with me! Bummer to make it all the way through labor only to barf because of the meds at the end.
pomegranate / 3411 posts
yes twice. i didn't care much though, i was used to throwing from being pregnant.

Yes, on the second day. About 24 hours in? And another 11-12 till I delivered.
pear / 1879 posts
Yup. Right before getting my epidural. I was about 5cm and just couldn't take it. I cannot even begin to tell you how much I dislike throwing up
