I'm a first-time formula feeder, and I'm thinking about switching my 4 month old from name-brand to generic formula. He hasn't had any feeding issues and has been thriving on the Enfamil formula he's had since birth. Did you use store brand formula? How was it for your baby? And did your baby have any problems when you switched over to the new brand?

My sister pretty much has always used the Walmart brand. I think it's called Up & Up? Same as you, easy feeder with no issues. She likes it, but I can't say anything about the transition since I think she used it from birth (aside from maybe some free stuff from the hospital).
Maybe you can do a side by side comparison of ingredients the next time you're at the store? If they are identical it might make you feel better.
At least that's what I would do, not like it's a professional opinion though.

We used the Target brand after having started on Enfamil and it worked out great.

We used the BJ's brand with no issues.

Our BF doc with both our kids (she is a ped who specializes in infant feeding) told us (note that this is in Canada) not to waste our money on brand name formulas unless you have dietary reasons to require special formulas. Still, with our first I used the prepared enfamil and felt like it was worth it. With our second, I took her words to heart and went generic. And both kids seem to have turned out ok so far!

It's crazy the stuff you worry about with kids that so often turns out to not be a big deal

We tried the Walmart brand and I don't think it made a difference except the smell was worse. We were on gerber good start gentle and there weren't many generic options. At the time it was Walmart or gerber only, not sure about now.

We used the Similac I think sensitive (orange) and bought the target, walmart, and CVS versions and never had any issues.

We used the Target brand version of Enfamil and Similac and had no issues.

When we started supplementing I was more concerned about being organic than using any specific brand. We went with walmart store brand organic (since that's the only store brand that offers organic) and it was great. LO didn't have any problems going from BM to formula.

We used the Sams Club brand. No issues at all switching over. It's really inexpensive. Both our pediatrician and our lactation consultants said they were all the same, anyways

I used Wal-Mart brand, Similac, Kroger Brand, Meijer Brand...whatever was cheapest and convenient and/or we had coupons for (all versions of the basic formula--the Similac Advance "blue cap"). Worked great--we noticed no difference in our daughter's reactions between any of them.

We've used the Target brand for Similac Sensitive and I actually think it mixes a lot better than the real Similac. Used it without any problems until we switched to something else.

Thanks for all the responses! Definitely going to try out a generic brand soon and see how it goes.
