There are some foods like carrots, beets, etc. that you are not supposed to make homemade because of possibly high nitrates. It seems like most people don't heed this though. Did you?

I hadn't heard this. I make my own baby food, and just wash well and buy organic when I can.

@daniellemybelle: do you mean for purees? I remember vaguely hearing this, but most of my friends did more soft finger foods rather than purees when it came to homemade stuff.

I have always just waited a bit longer to introduce those foods and we make sure they aren't eating a steady diet of them for breakfast lunch and dinner.

@Anagram: Yes, purees!
@redsmarties: Supposedly organic doesn't make a huge difference in regard to nitrates.... but it does help & is overall healthier! I use mostly organic as well.

As long as every single meal isn't a root vegetable and there's some variety, it should be fine.
