Spinning off of the other thread, I'm wondering if there would be an advantage to switch my LO to a toddler bed sooner rather than later. He currently goes to sleep easily but wakes up in the night and we bring him to our bed. I'd love him to sleep through. Not sure if the open bed would be better or worse...

Following! We have the same situation! She will go to sleep okay but wakes up a couple of times a night and then comes into bed around 5am with us!

Her sleep got much much much much better. She was waking all through the night and asking to sleep on the couch. My mom suggested that maybe she was cramped in her crib and feeling confined by the crib slats (hence the couch). We switched her to a twin bed and she's slept like a dream ever since. there's been maybe 5 times since October that she's woken up at night!.
Also, putting her to bed is way easier since we can just lie next to her on the twin. -
My kids never really slept in cribs so I don't have anything to compare it to. I just find it so much easier to put them to bed. I can nurse my DD or lay with her and pat her then just roll away and she stays asleep. No transferring her to a crib.
You can give it a try by just putting the crib mattress on the floor. We used to do that with my son.

It's the same. Her sleep didn't change when we moved her out of a crib.
