Just wondering if this is really necessary, I'm currently breastfeeding and then supplementing with formula and pumped breast milk. I've noticed that she lets out great big burps when drinking formula or breastmilk from a bottle, but when I breastfeed her she rarely ever burps and even then it will be a teeny burp. Does she need to be burped after being breastfed?

i burped my little girl for the first 3 months or so. She really seemed to need it at least for the first month but after that we probably only did it occasionally.

My LO is almost 9months and I still burp her. I've been told that I don't have to but I still do.

No, not really. She never seems to need it and she's not uncomfortable. Then again she's never been a spit-upper. What goes down there stays... No escape.

My son gulps down breast milk, and therefore we burp him whenever he starts wiggling on the boob. It's necessary maybe 1 out of 5 times.

I used to burp my LO after nursing her. I stopped early on though. She usually burps on her own

Technically no, after breastfeeding you shouldn't need to burp but I always did and always got a burp out.

We always burped after each breast. Sometimes we'd sit there for 10 mins walloping on his back until we got a burp out of him. Gas was a big problem (he'd have painful gas and cry and cry until he burped or farted) so we were REALLY careful about burping until he learned how to pass gas on his own!

I did but don't recall doing it regularly. My understanding is that when drinking from a bottle (regardless of content) babies ingest more air and therefore need to burp more often then if nursing at the breast.

I do, my son still gets huge burps. Sometimes he won't sleep or will wake up if he has a big burp inside.

We tried to burp when she was a newborn. She would kinda sit up and burp but often she didn't need to. If she really had to burp she would just let it out, often while still latched on!
Now, we don't burp her at all. I think its one of the beautiful things about breastfeeding!

i did when olive was a newborn, but i haven't in quite some time now. they definitely burp more when taking bottles than when breastfeeding.

I always tried to get a burp out, whether bfing or bottlefeeding. If he didnt' get one out within 30-45 seconds, I just stopped trying. He usually got one out pretty fast.

My sister still burps my niece who is 7 months old and she is exclusively breastfeed.

My LO is 3 months now and I at least try to get a burp out. If I don't get one after a few seconds, then I don't bother.

I have hyperactive letdown so if I don't burp DD inbetween breasts it'll end up coming back up. =/

I've only recently started to burp her after she's done and now she lets out these really big burps now.
