What, if anything, do you do to celebrate the last day of school? DS is finishing kindergarten and I was thinking of inviting the other kinder kids on our street over for popsicles after school on the last day (there are 4 of them and kinder is only half day). Just wondering if anyone else had any fun things planned!

We’re going to go get ice cream, I think. We did it after school on the first day of kindergarten so it seems fitting to do it on the last.
I also put together a “welcome to summer” gift. It’s all things I probably would have picked up anyway but it will seem fun to her. It has a new bathing suit, a lawn game, unicorn horn chalk, beach toys, “coupons” (made by me) to go get ice cream, and a few new books.

@catgirl: Super fun! I like the bag idea. That evening we are going through a dinosaur drive thru thing and I didn't want to spend the extra $15 per kid of the gift bag so I think I am going to go to the dollar store or target dollar spot and put together little dino themed bags for the three of them.

Not the same, but my parents were teachers and on the last day of school after the bell rang all the teachers would gather in the staff room, drink champagne, and toast the buses pulling out of the lot for the last time.

We do ice cream, a small gift (a book this year), and mani/pedis for my daughter (at home this year & last). I also take the afternoon off work so I can pick my daughter up from school and celebrate with her. Oh, and of course she has to endure a last day of school photo on our stoop.

Usually they would have last day parties that already involve something like popsicles or ice cream, so we would do pizza or special dinner later.
I also typically give a summer gift - often something to keep busy indoors during 100+ afternoons. This year I wanted to mark the end of doing a virtual year and went overboard a bit but still things I either already had or was planning for use for summer - leftover bubbles, s’mores packs (just the pieces portioned into baggies per kid), an activity book for each age, a kick board for the pool and a cooling neck towel since they came in a 4 pack.

I have to work the last day but since it is a half day I’ll take an extended lunch to pick up DS. We are loosely planning to go to the LEGO store, he has money he wants to spend!
After kindergarten we stayed extra long and played on the park then went for slurpees. Last year being virtual they did a drive by parade at school, but I don’t think we did anything.

We used to get off the bus and be greeted by our parents and have a silly string fight. I think popsicles sounds fun!

I love this thread! It's a half day, so I will take the whole day off. We will get donuts before school, then I will pick her up in carline and we will go to a nice restaurant and eat lunch outside. This will be her first time "in" a restaurant since Jan or Feb 2020. I plan to pick up some new books for her in the morning and then we will stop and sign up for the library summer reading program on the way home too.
I also got us matching bracelets to wear this summer. I'm going overboard but last summer was ROUGH and I appreciate all the simple and not so simple pleasures we can partake in this year
