I'm in the ok to drive, ok to breastfeed camp, so I've never pumped and dumped. Don't know about cigarettes though.

Pumping and dumping after drinking won't metabolise the alcohol in your breastmilk any faster and the general consensus seems to be ok to drive, ok to breastfeed.

I'm not sure on the cigarettes although I imagine you'd want to change your clothes, wash your hands etc before handling baby to minimise their exposure to the second hand smoke.

I heard the lactation consultant at a bf'ing support group meeting tell someone that if she wasn't buzzed at the time, she was ok to nurse.

i've never pumped and dumped from drinking - an LC told me 2 drinks is ok, and combined with my laziness and dislike of pumping, i've never pumped & dumped.

but, i was on vacation where LO wasn't eating a lot because she was sick and i was getting engorged, and i didn't have any way to store it or bring it back, so i pumped and dumped it down the drain every time.

Nope. But I have low supply and we supplement with formula. Every last drop I produce I try and make sure ends up in her body. I just havent smoked or drank at all. Would love a glass of wine someday again, but I'm not a huge drinker so I'm okay with waiting until I'm done breastfeeding, even if it s probably okay to have a little.

@PrincessBaby: from this January? Frozen milk is good for up to 6 months in a regular freezer.

I only dumped once, and that was after a huge dinner with wine pairings after which I was super engorged and after waiting forever and testing with those alcohol strips, it was still registering so I pumped enough off to be comfortable and dumped that.
In general, I am in the ok to drive, ok to nurse category.

@PrincessBaby: @travelgirl1: yeah, I'm pretty sure the CDC and lll say 6 months regular freezer and 1 year in a deep freezer.

@PrincessBaby: clearly it's up to you, but when I read 3-6 mo. I read 6 months as the point at which it should be dumped. We invested in a deep freezer to extend this amount of time.
