Ha, my SIL's 9 year old nephew asked me (while nursing with cover) if people can breastfeed in the library since food and drinks aren't allowed inside. (He was very concerned about milk dripping on books!)
What is the answer?

@autumnlove: In a similar vein, wouldn't that mean that nursing moms aren't allowed in libraries while lactating/BFing?!

That is so cute-- and smart! I still say yes, though really, I guess it depends whether they make exceptions for bottle fed babies. If you can have a bottle, you can have a breast. If you have to leave for the bottle it gets a little less clear...

I think I would ask a question like, "Why do you think they have that rule?" And the answer to that would probably be, "So you can't spill something and ruin any books." And then I would say something like, well I can't really spill, so I think it's ok." Keeping in mind this is a 9-year old.

@TemperanceBrennan: I don't know, sometimes milk can spray pretty far!!! Lookout books!

@MamaMoose: Haha, that's what I hear, but I doubt a 9 year old knows that!

It depends on the state. In Cali (where I am) anywhere the mother and the baby are legally allowed to me (not just eating) they are allowed to breastfeed.
But I really liked @TemperanceBrennan idea. It makes sense.
