I've seen the routes posted and just asked DS, who says they sometimes practice. How scary! There was a potential gas leak a few weeks ago and the firemen came to the school. The kids were already at recess so they didn't need to evacuate.

Absolutely but not because I specifically ask.

Two years ago there was a bomb threat by my sons school. The entire preschool was walked about 1/4 mile away to an open area and parents were called. It was mostly well done (except for the friends ex in another state getting called first).

At their new school they practice a fire drill every month. They just had a drill Thursday. My son asked where his baby was and made sure she came out with him.

We also had been scheduled for a larger drill for the entire campus. That brought up many discussions. The scenario they hoped was practiced was a lockdown. We also discussed what would happen if a full campus evacuation was ordered (wild fire, earthquake, etc). The busses come get the preschool first and take them up the hill.

I know they do fire drills but I'm not exactly sure where the rendezvous point is.

Every school I've ever been in as a student or teacher does drills. California had earthquake drills, Virginia does tornado drills. Now all do intruder drills, which is so sad. At the height of intruder fear, they had an actual SWAT team sweep our rooms at one school. Terrifying.

How scary!

Fire drills are required by the state, and they have them monthly. We not only have an outside evacuation and a nearby facility evacuation point but we live by a nuclear plant so we also have one about 20 miles away. They're required to give all parents a copy of the evacuation policy, and post it, so I took a picture of it and keep it in my phone, just in case of an emergency.

DS's old daycare had to evacuate just to the playground, once, because a sewage pipe in the building broke.

That was one of the first questions I asked when I was looking at daycares. In my mind how do 4 teachers get 12-16 infant and young toddlers out of the school. They have 2 mobile cribs and they put the infants in one and the younger toddlers in another and push them out. Depending on the emergency they can either take the children into the school yard or across the street and into the church or church yard. They do drills once a month and in october have the firefighters come and they can check out the truck and learn fire safety.
