I am really paranoid about my kids eating popcorn. I do let my 3 year old but rarely let my 20 month old unless I'm feeding her small pieces. They both love it so much though!
When did you start letting your LO eat popcorn?

Why paranoid- choking hazard? I'm fairly paranoid about choking but this escaped my radar (I still cut grapes and grape tomatoes at over two years old). We don't have t around very often but if it's there I let her have a little. I limit t more because the kind that will be around isn't very healthy. But she's definitely had a fair amount of smart food popcorn.

Yep if we have it in the house. He loves his boom chika pop!

Popcorn, uncut grapes, and hard candies are all a big no in our house ad will be for a long time (LO is almost 3).

I started letting LO have it at 2. When she first started I sat there and watched her like a psycho hawk lol, and I would give her some in a bowl. It's only once in a while though.

yes! Our ped even suggested it for DD when she was constipated since it has a good source of fiber

Yes, all the time. It's a healthy snack and the girls love it. Maybe I'm just being dense here but I don't see it as that big of a choking hazard? I make sure the pieces I give the girls don't have the hard kernels so I really don't see how it's any more risky than any other crunchy snack? My girls are nearly 3.5 and 21 months.

E loves popcorn! We sometimes make popcorn and watch a movie together after I pick him up from daycare on Friday afternoons. I first gave it to him around 2 probably. This didn't register as a major choking hazard to me.

Honestly, y'all are the first people I've ever heard that don't let their LOs eat popcorn! My LO (newly 2) definitely eats it. A good friend had popcorn at her 2 year old's birthday party. We're doing popcorn for LO's party too - haha! But I'm offering Annie's snack mix too for those who want another option for their LO.
I do cut grapes (not as tiny as I used to though) but a good chunk of the moms I know in real life don't do that either.

Lo loves popcorn!!!!
When she was very little I gave her just the white puffy parts.

Yes, both kids devour it! DH makes fresh popcorn with olive oil and salt. LO2 has so many allergies, and it's one of the few treats that he can enjoy freely.

I didn't let her eat it without supervision until 3. Now she eats it a lot - it's a great after school snack and we make it on the stovetop so I know what's in it. I was really worried about it being a choking hazard, too.

Lo1 wasn't allowed until 18+ months? Probably longer. LO2 eats it whenever his sister does and has since...11 months? He has teeth and is so good at chewing his food that I was a lot more relaxed with him I am always right there (we usually eat popcorn at target, I'm pretty sure LO1 thinks target is a popcorn store...) and offer plenty of water between snacking.

we never did at home since we didn't eat it, but it was regular at daycare and we didn't mind starting from age 2.

I only give him the white puffy parts but DH just took him to the bank and let him have a sack of it to himself (they had a popcorn machine there??). He didn't think of it as a hazard and I guess he did just fine. DS is 14 months.

Nope - I read it's one of the top choking hazards - but we don't eat it anyway so total moot point here. But we do love Pirate's Booty
Edit: I still cut grapes in half the long way for my 3 year old. Worth the extra few min to prep over her choking.

DD (3) and DS (1.5) eat popcorn occasionally. I just watch them. They also serve it sometimes as a snack at church since they are gluten-free. It's never been a problem (aside from the mess). Though now that you mention it, I should probably let the director know the risks.

Definitely! When they're little I would break off small puffy pieces for them but starting around 2 years (maybe?) LO1 gets his own little bowl.

My 3 year old had it for the first time a couple weeks ago. He is hesitant to try new foods so I let him have it because it is very unusual for him to ask for it! He was fine but we don't have it very much so I doubt he will have it again anytime soon.

Yes!! She loves popcorn. She's been eating it since a little before 2.

Yes. I made it for her over the summer and she fell in love with it.

I have been feeding my 22-month DD popcorn and she loves it. However, after reading this article, I am terrified and feel awful for giving it to her. I think I'll wait a few years before I give it to her again.

@CatchAFallingStar: I read a similar story about a toddler dying from popcorn at a daycare last year. It was before I had ever give it to my son and it quickly became a no-no here. He's now 2 and some change.
My nanny gave him popcorn a few months back and I was pretty upset. She was pushing him in the stroller so if something had happened she wouldn't have even been able to see it.
It's not a totally obvious culprit but I've read at least 3 of these stories so that's enough for me.

B is almost 3 and he's only had it once, at movie day at his daycare, and we had to sign a permission form saying it was ok to do it. I wasn't actually super comfortable with it but I didn't want him to be the only one in class who didn't get the treat. As it turned out he refused to eat it anyway because he said it was for animals (the previous week we'd been to the petting zoo where you get a bucket of popcorn to feed the goats and sheep).

DD definitely has had popcorn around 20 months... I always watch her and make sure she isn't running around while eating it. We don't eat it often enough for me to be concerned.
