I was sort of a sweets nazi until DS was closer to two, but now I don't mind if he gets chocolate or ice cream (as long as he eats his meals!)

Yes. In moderation, but she has something sweet every day. Usually fruit snacks but more recently chocolate because we have been potty training.

Since Easter I've let her have one or two pieces of candy after lunch every day (19 months) but we don't usually even keep ice cream or cookies or candies in the house so it's generally not offered

I definitely was pre 2 and I'm sure for 95% of parents I'm still considered a sweet nazi. I don't really care because she is off the wall when she has even a tiny bit of sweets! Sweets are given occasionally by us when she has been really good or for a special occasion. I know she gets sweets at her grandparents though they do respect out wishes and keep it to a minimum.

Yep! Especially now that she's 2. I was far more dogmatic when she was younger.

I have an extreme sugar addiction. I'm hoping to spare my lo the same by limiting sweets when she's older. Although my parents didn't give me much sugar so I don't know if this will help.

Now that he is 2 we let him have a "special treat" a few times each week. Usually a yogurt squeeze that we have frozen or one small piece of candy (m&m, jelly bean, etc).

Not until she was 2. Now I let her have a little bit, but she doesn't ask for them. My parents brought a cake over last week, and LO didn't as for any even though we ate it in front of her and in fact directed us to "eat cake." She had half a small foil wrapped Easter egg (the smallest ones) and said all done. She was more interested in her yogurt melts! Strange child

We didn't for a long time, because he couldn't stop at just one piece and threw a tantrum if he didn't get like five chocolates at once... he's better with the self control now, so we give him candy but try to stay away from it in the evenings. He's hard enough to put to bed as it is!

yes, now that's she's 2 as well! not all the time, but i split a small thing of skittles with her and she loved it... and by split, i mean, i had most of them and she had like 4. oops.

We started just before 2, but soon realized it affects her sleep and attitude a lot. So she doesn't get much if at all. I try to stick with gummies or yogurt covered raisins.

Occasionally, the same as many others. He definitely likes chocolate like his mama! But we don't do dessert. It definitely messes up bedtime.

Yeah, not every day though. I can get crazily addicted to sugar so I'm trying to limit his so hopefully he can avoid that same addiction.

Yes. Life is too short. He's tasted cake, chocolate, ice cream, and donut. It's not an every day thing, but he does like them.
cantaloupe / 6630 posts
Yes. I didn't until she turned two, but she gets them occasionally now. She has, for sure, inherited my crazy sweet tooth. We gave her a bit of Easter Egg on Sunday and she shoved the entire thing in her mouth so fast!

Yeah, he has fruit snacks every day (The YumEarth ones) and occasionally frozen yogurt or cake (at parties etc). But he eats well and never substitutes something healthy for something not healthy. He eats several servings of fruits and veggies a day and whole grains and proteins so I don't worry too much about some sweets.

Yes, DH and I have pretty big sweet tooths (sweet teeth?), and we always give DS what we're having. So most weekends he'll have some kind of cake, cupcakes, cookies, or whatever else we get. He loooves it.

He occasionally gets a few mini Nilla wafers if he's eaten his dinner, and he gets a lot of strawberry yogurt. He's had chocolate once and was upset it got his hands messy...he didn't seem to care about the taste at all. And we sometimes go out for frozen yogurt.
But we're not really a sweets family. I prefer savory snacks 9/10 times, and D generally prefers raspberries to everything else, and so does E.

Yes, but we try not to make it a regular thing. I sneak my sweets at night after she goes to bed.

Yes, now that he's over 2, I'm not as strict about it. Weirdo sometimes doesn't want it tho. We were just out to lunch with my grandma and he didn't want any milkshake!

We live about a block from an amazing French bakery, so we eat way more pastries than we should. I don't want LO to think that sweets are a big deal, so I always share mine with him. He eats a wide variety of healthy foods as well, so I'm not concerned.

I have no idea where we'll fall on this. On the one hand, I'd really prefer to limit them for as long as possible. On the other hand, I bake a LOT. So how does that work? Plus, some things I've read have said it's better to not limit access too much because of the whole forbidden attractant issue. But I personally have no self-control on sweets (and neither does DH), so might a sweet tooth be nature, not nurture, and she'll get it from us, in which case we need to restrict it more? How the heck do you decide these sorts of parenting issues?!
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
Yep! She loves to ask for "chocolate " which sounds like "cock" haha
grapefruit / 4997 posts
My DH doesn't really have a sweet tooth so I have never stocked up on many sweet snacks. We do have snacks like yogurt, chips, gold fish, and beef jerky always on hand. We love ice cream so that's usually our dessert of choice!
pomegranate / 3983 posts
Yes, esp since they turned 2. They get pretty nuts with the sugar so I have to time it right but as a rule I don't mind.
