Not often. There's not one very close to us.
I shop at Sam's Club regularly, though, so it's kind of the same I think?
honeydew / 7488 posts
We go there occasionally! My DH is a big Wal Mart fan, because our bill is always soooo much lower when we go there. However, I always remind him it's in partly because they don't carry half the things I want to buy, so it's not really a savings if I have to go somewhere else now to get it.
But really, it's not so bad at all. Just way too big, it takes forever to shop there.

Nope. But there are no Walmarts here. Once in a blue moon I'll go to Target. We get all the big-box store stuff at our local grocery, through Amazon or FreshDirect (delivery to our door saves us so much time!)
hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts
Generally, I like to avoid it, but there is a Walmart that is open 24/7, so if I need something I'll go. So much easier to shop there at midnight.
ETA: I think I've gone once this year. Not a fan of their business practices. Most of my money spent these days are at Costco and Amazon. My trips to Target has gone down, too. That's just because I don't need to go because Amazon delivers it to my door.
cantaloupe / 6687 posts
Maybe once or twice a year. I haven't gone yet this year but I went last summer to get a little kiddie pool for LO. It's close by but the parking lot alone stresses me out... Even in the middle of the day during the week.
nectarine / 2765 posts
Nope. The money saved isn't worth the stress, frustration and anger. Plus, DH & I are opposed to their business practices.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@cyndistar3: @pui: Yeah, there's really no difference between our Walmart and Target in my area except location and slightly different items.
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@heartonastring: Agreed. Not a fan of their business practices. There's a reason stuff there is so cheap...
GOLD / watermelon / 14076 posts
@MsLipGloss: LOL! Yes, in a people watching contest Walmart is the clear winner.
nectarine / 2358 posts
I prefer Target because it is usually less crazy and it is closer to our house, though they are building a Neighborhood Market about 5-10 minutes from our house I would be willing to try. We currently shop at Publix but they can be a little pricey. Then again, you're paying for the awesome customer service! I'll try it out As for the regular store, only when absolutely necessary.

@mrsjazz: 3/4 of the stuff i used to buy at target i just order on amazon now! looooooove having everything just show up at my door. except last night the fedex guy left a 40lb bag of cat litter at the bottom of the stairs, which defeats having it delivered if he's not going to carry it up for me! (it's still down there... i'm hoping someone stops by and carries it up the 4 flights for me )
coconut / 8279 posts
We don't have a Walmart nearby and Target is two buildings down from us, so no.
pear / 1861 posts
Nope, I coupon and can get things cheaper at CVS, Publix and Target. Plus I hate going in that place, blood pressure goes up!
pear / 1699 posts
I go once a month for toiletries, diapers, cleaning supplies and pick up some canned/boxed food while I'm there. It's just soooo much less expensive and even with 2 kids (wearing baby/toddler in front of cart) it isn't that bad - although I do go at 8 am. Otherwise I shop for groceries once a week at Sobeys.
watermelon / 14467 posts
Only if I have to. I'm not a fan of their business practices, plus I have two Targets closer to my house than the crappy Walmart. Seriously, it's awful. I also hate how cheap looking the labeling on their Great Value brand is, but that's the advertising side of me talking.
However, the Walmart near my parent's house and in my college town are pretty nice, so I'll go there when I am in town since Target is 30 minutes and an hour away, respectively.
pomegranate / 3580 posts
Yes, we go probably once a week. We live in a small, rural town and it's our only option for getting some things. We do our grocery shopping there 50% of the time - usually if we know it's going to be a big $ trip - we really do see a difference in the total. Otherwise we go to our local Safeway.
cantaloupe / 6751 posts
Only when I have no other choice... but ugh, it always puts me in such a bad mood. IDK what it is about Wal-Mart, but I always feel so... ugh in there.
grapefruit / 4703 posts
No way. I haven't stepped foot in a Walmart in probably... 9 years? I used to go sometimes in college because it was the closest/cheapest, but never since then. I disagree with their business practices, and we have plenty of alternatives around here, so I make a point to avoid it.
grapefruit / 4066 posts
No, only because Target is closer and I buy all our groceries at the supermarket, so no need to really shop at Walmart.
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
Yes. My husband is a Walmart employee (in logistics) so we get 10% off everything except groceries, but including produce. So it's better for us.
Plus it's really our only cost effective grocery store around here.
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
Yes, I do a trip about once every 2 months for toiletries, and always go early morning on Saturday, it's never as busy then!
cantaloupe / 6692 posts
@lawbee11: The produce section in ours is awesome. I think walmart gets their produce locally now and our area is a huge farming town.
persimmon / 1313 posts
Only if I absolutely need to because our Walmarts are always crowded with tourists and it's just a nightmare. I've never gone to Walmart since moving here where I didn't leave with a headache. I miss being able to go after midnight when I needed to but that isn't possible anymore.
grapefruit / 4089 posts
A few times a month. All of our Walmarts are clean and big and have great prices.. I'm wondering if they are a little different in the states? I've never had a problem, other than the long lines when checking out.
papaya / 10473 posts
On rare occasion. I build up a list over several weeks or months before we finally go, and I have to be in a VERY patient mood. The 50 checkout lanes, 200 people waiting to check out, but 2 cashiers on duty situation always pisses me off to no end.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@.twist.: Agreed. Their produce is so much cheaper so we go there to grocery shop. Fortunately, our's isn't too bad unless it's the day before a holiday or something so we get in and out pretty quickly. Self checkout definitely helps speed up the process!
grapefruit / 4817 posts
Almost never. It stresses me out and I don't like their business practices. I'll step foot into the garden center maybe twice a year.
grapefruit / 4584 posts
I don't shop "at" Walmart but I do occasional online orders of toiletries & pharmaceuticals - I feel like their online selection is better than Target. But I much prefer to shop "in person" at Target.
pomegranate / 3872 posts
Every once in a while. I have to be in the mood. For some reason I randomly get our halloween candy there most years because they have a huge selection and those ginormous bags.
persimmon / 1404 posts
Never. I will drive however far I need to and pay more to not shop there.
honeydew / 7687 posts
No, don't like their business choices and don't like their store. My dad is an ardent supporter and drags me in but honestly I don't even think they're cheaper than target.
bananas / 9357 posts
Usually just do out weekly grocery shopping there. I hate how they put so much crap in the middle of the aisles tho!
@.twist.: yep, sums up how I feel about shopping at Walmart. I don't like it, but it's the closest grocery store and it's a lot cheaper than the other grocery store nearby us. Ours has a nice produce section too. I always find locally grown produce there.
grapefruit / 4997 posts
Shopping at Walmart is somewhat stressful. It's always so crowded and the one near me, their baby section is disorganized and never fully stocked. I don't get that same retail therapy happiness experience that I get when I go to Super Target. I will go if necessary since it's open 24/7.
grapefruit / 4997 posts
@scg00387: I agree, I don't think they are that much cheaper than Target. Target has sales frequently.
kiwi / 631 posts
Sometimes, but I like Target better, and it is closer.
@Kimberlybee: I agree. I have rarely been to a Walmart that isn't a mess.
Many of the employees there do not seam to care too much about their jobs either, and it shows by how messy the store is, and by how bad their customer service is.
My husband used to work for Walmart for many years, and still has a good friend who works there. I cannot believe how they keep any employees with some of the stories I've heard. But then again his friend has worked there for many years, and doesn't seem to want to make a change, despite the crappy treatment.
nectarine / 2274 posts
Only if its something that Target doesn't carry. I recently went to buy oil drip pans to make a magnetic chalkboard for Lo. That will probably be my only trip there this year. I hate the layouts of Walmarts.
persimmon / 1343 posts
Only when we travel to visit my husband's family because they live in a rural area and Walmart is all that have! Otherwise, I will only go there if they have something cheaper than everywhere else like synthetic motor oil
