Definitely not! She gets all the money you pay her so no need to tip. If you mean a bonus at the end of the year, I wouldn’t if she’s just occasional.

We cash pay most of our sitters. They aren't paying taxes so I don't feel at all bad just paying them their asked for amount

No, unless it’s like rounding up to the nearest whole number (like giving $60 instead of getting change to give her $55).

I voted no. We just started using a sitter so this is new to me. I did pay her for a full two hours when she first came to hang with my son and was only there for 1.5

With an occasional babysitter, I round up and pay for a taxi if it’s late. With our regular lady, I give her a New Years and birthday bonus and pay for her taxi home.

Thanks everyone, super helpful! For those who answered yes, it is rounding up/holiday gift type tipping, or a more standard percentage tip?
Thank you!

If they go above and beyond the job (i.e., LOs were asleep so they cleaned the kitchen or convinced my kid they like a food they previously refused to eat) I will but not just for standard babysitting.

We round up but don’t tip. Also one of our babysitters prefers cash rather than Venmo so we end of giving her more if we don’t have exact change. That can add up too; say we were gone from 6:30-9:10– we’d pay her for 3 hours even though it’s not the full time, so that’s 75 but we don’t have change and give her 80 in cash instead of like 67 if we timed it exactly, or 75 that we would pay on venmo. We also pay for dinner. Writing it out, we’re super generous lol and this is why we rarely go out!

@nana87: It's so expensive... we hadn't really used babysitters, but I ended up finally hiring someone so I could work on our taxes. Which was a pretty depressing use of the babysitter relative to a date night, but necessary
