If I let LO go till she pops off she cups take up to 45 min and by the end she's barely eating anything - just sucking. So I often unlatch her but then she gets upset. I feel like its a no win situation. I'm either parked on the couch all day attached to a baby or dealing with a cranky crying baby. What do you do?

I used to unlatch and give LO the other side.

when olive was little i used to wait for her to unlatch, and sometimes it took over an hour! now that she's older i unlatch her. but she doesn't get upset.

@BeachMama: I would unlatch her and if she got upset, I would (try to) put the pacifier in her mouth. Sometimes it was successful, because at the end all she really wanted was to suck, but sometimes she only wanted the boob. If I felt that she still needed to eat, I would offer her the other side.

It was pretty early on that I could tell if she was done or not. If she stopped nursing (no swallowing) I would unlatch her. Usually if she was done she would maybe fuss or wine until I could distract her but she was obviously done. If I unlatched her and she wasn't done she would SCREAM! It was good because then she would kinda be upset and when I relatched her she would nurse again.

I used to unlatch if LO wasn't swallowing and that was after 15-20 minutes per side. I would get so annoyed that he would never actually tell me he was finished like you read about from every breastfeeding source!
Now at 4 months he almost always unlatches on his own.
