I've been reading some threads and noticed that some people wake their LO for feedings. Apart from the first week, I never woke up my LO.
I figured that if she is hungry she will wake up. I mean, how are you suppose to know if you LO sleeps through the night if you wake them up? Sienna slept 7 hours straight, then 5 hours the next day... even though I was engorged and wished she would wake so that I could get some relief, I let her be.
Do you wake your LO for feedings?

I did initially during the day, but never have at night. Although unfortunately she's usually up after 4 hours max anyways... no 7 hour stretches here - I'm officially jealous!

Yes, during the day but not at night. I wanted to keep her full so she would sleep longer at night.

Occasionally I will wake her during the day if she's going over a 3 hour nap. I never wake her at night, she does that all on her own.

During the day I always woke him after 2 hours. At night he never had trouble waking on his own lol

I always let him sleep, I figured he wouldn't let himself starve and he of course never did.

I would wake in the day if LO was sleeping more than 3 hours and was told to wake him up at night during the first couple of weeks because he wasn't gaining as quickly and my supply wasn't established. I always hated waking him up though and would try to stretch it a little if he wasn't waking on his own.

For the record, I have a baby that EATS and POOPS all the time. So she has no problem waking up during the day to eat. (Never sleeps more than 2 hour stretches) She went from 7 lbs 10 oz (at 5 days) to 10 lbs 10 oz at (26 days)

I've never woken my Lo for feedings. She was always in the 90-95th % for weight and height. Weight started dropping at 1 year!

Mine was always good on waking up after about 2 1/2 hours of sleep anyway, and wanted food right away.

yes I wake her up during the day after 3 hours. and at night after about 4.5 hours she starts rooting around for food in her sleep and even though she isnt 100% awake she isnt really asleep either so I do wake her up

now I do if i wake up in the middle of the night, my boobs hurt because they feel like they are going to explode and i can't get back to sleep...............he barely wakes up for the feeding, so i don't feel like i'm being extremely disturbing
my baby will never sleep through the night because i am too wimpy to just take the pain of engorgement and too lazy to figure out a breastpump in the middle of the night

I wake her for feedings during the day. She would sleep for much longer than 3 hours during the day if I didn't wake her up. She never goes more than 2 hours without waking up at night. She is 4 weeks 1 day.

@cvbee: dang, I pump two times a night (when HUBBY is bottle feeding LO). If I go more than three hours without feeding or pumping I feel like my boobs are gonna burst!

@blushink: man, my baby isn't gaining much weight then! She was 7 13 at birth and only weighs 9 2 now! And she is 29 days!!!

For a little while when she would only get one chunk of decent sleep, I would wake and feed her before I went to sleep. It was the only way I would get three or four hours in a row. That was it though, my theory is that healthy babies who were born full term will wake up if they need to eat.

I still make sure DD eats approximately every 3 hours during the day, even if it means waking her. I probably should stop doing that, now that she's 10 weeks old! At night I only woke her back at the very beginning when I was trying to establish my supply.

As a first time mom, I was so scared of making mistakes the first couple of weeks. I would start to worry if my LO slept too long between feedings and thought I was a bad parent for not waking him up. What made it more confusing was that I had to feed him formula every other feeding (since I was still attempting to breastfeed directly & my milk didn't come in until much later). Yeah.. it was stressful, and I think I only woke him up once or twice. Next time I won't worry so much and just listen to my LO. Babies know when they are hungry.

Only during the day--one time he went 9 hours without eating. Yeah.... The doctor said I had to feed him at least every 2-3 hours, so if his daytime nap was over 3 hours, I woke him and fed him. I let him sleep at night (but he gets up in 2 hours on his own at night). I will let him sleep ALL night if he can.
