Charlie's elementary school is out for the whole week next week... Monday is President's Day, and then the rest of the week is mid-Winter break!
Maybe it's just a New York thing... anyone else's kids have school off next week?

We have Rodeo Break Thursday & Friday, a local thing that I doubt anyone has. Luckily, daycare is open because work is too, but all the public schools close.

Not for us. Does Charlie go to a year-round school? N's Montessori is year-round b/c they start in Sept, have a month-long break in Feb and then resume Winter session in March and end in July. Then another month-long break in August and resume again in Sept. And I get to choose to send him to Winter (Feb) and Summer (Aug) camp. He's going to Winter camp for 2.5 weeks and then another week-long break before Winter session starts up in March. So he will have gotten two weeks in Feb b/c of CNY (everyone gets a week off here).

DS has Monday off, which parents aren't thrilled abput since they had 4 snow days last week.
I remember February break in NY.

I know I am old and ancient, but we never had a February break when I was an NYC public school kid.

@Mrs. Taco: normally it would have been fine, but we've had 1-2 snow days per week since Jan 1 so having another break is tough! Even my LO is tired of it and isn't happy there is no school yet again!

Nope. Spring break is coming up in march, but aside from that we are in school. Even Presidents' Day day off has been made into a snow makeup day.

The school where I work has next week off and daycare is also closed. Here (in MA) we have a February break President's Day week and an April break around Easter. March is a LONG month here.

I teach GA Pre-k in a daycare, but we follow the school system calender and we were out last week and tomorrow for winter break. The daycare is still open though.

President's day is a holiday for both WS and me and daycare is closed, but it's open for the rest of the week. The public schools have February vacation though! So the whole week off.

Where I grew up in SE michigan we always had a week around valentines and a week starting Good Friday. I think the second one is no longer tied to Easter but they still have 2. Maybe in cold states you really need the chances for vacation? It did split up the long winter nicely.

No LO yet but yes it is February vacation week here in MA. I had never heard of the 2 breaks shenanigans until I moved here. They definitely didn't do it down south!

DH does! I had never heard of it before we moved to NY. But I think it's because they go so late into June. Hey, it's moving week, I'll take it!
