My 2.5 yo has been taking a book to bed lately too. She is usually asleep within 10 minutes. So far, the book stays in bed with her overnight, however I think it did freak her out once she woke in the middle of the night.

Yes, but it hasn't been a problem for sleeping. There was a time when I could tell him "if you wake up and don't hear anyone, stay in your bed and read books" and he would do it. But now LO2 is always up super early and waking everyone else up too.

@Munchkin: A few months before 3, when we switched to a twin bed and he could get out of the bed by himself. He's 4 now. He has always loved books and is able to sit by himself for longish periods of time just looking at them (he doesn't know how to read). We would leave a big stack of books on his nightstand and explain to him that he could read them when he woke up. He would do it without coming to get us!

For nap time which has become "resting" time (boo!) I allow her to keep her bedside light on and all her books. Bedtime I take the books out but I often see her on the monitor get out of bed to get them again so she can read them with her night light. I don't discourage it though because i think it's really cute lol. She has never stayed up super late anyway.

My daughter goes through about 20 books a night, no joke. This is after I read her 3-5. She will stay up "reading" for 30-60 minutes. But I'm happy to let her do that, it makes her happy and she loves to read more than anything.

Both of my LOs take books to bed with them every night (they are 2.5 yrs and 14 months) and have done so since they were about 10-11 months old.

DD1 is in a twin bed and has a basket of books on the floor in her room that she can access whenever she wants. Her nightlight is bright enough that she can see them whilst laying in bed, and when she's tired, she just closes her eyes and goes to sleep.

DD2 is in a cot and I put about 4 or 5 board books in there with her. She doesn't usually read before falling asleep, but if she wakes up during the night, she turns on her aquarium nightlight (it's the FP musical one attached to her cot) and will flip through her books until she falls back asleep.

Both girls usually read their books in bed for a good hour after they wake, which is great as it means I don't need to get up until 8:30/9:00 to go get them!

Yes, she is almost 3, and yes every night she "reads" books in her bed. Usually she needs something to help her wind down a little bit. There was a time where it went on for way too long and she would ask for more and more books, but now I can usually give her one or two and she'll be asleep. Honestly, I would rather have her laying in bed reading then up and running around and trying to tell me that she doesn't want to go to sleep!
