LO is 6.5 months and still nurses a TON during the day when I am home with her. I mean, some days she can't even wait an hour in between sessions. I have to nurse her sometimes 3 times in between naps bc she gets hungry. I see tons of other mama's with LO's the same age who only nurse 4-6x a day and my LO does way more than that and am wondering if this is normal or if she needs more solids or something? We usually only do 1 meal of solids, either oatmeal or carrots since that is all she seems to like right now.

Maybe a growth spurt? Or maybe she's just a snacker and likes to graze. I think it's totally normal, as long as she's still gaining and having enough dirty/wet diapers (so you know that her actual intake is ok).

Sounds fine to me . . . your LO is probably easily distracted, and not nursing until completely full (especially if she knows she has ready access to you). Sometimes my LO does this (she is almost9 months) . . . she will nurse for a few minutes, get bored and pop off, and then fuss an hour or so later, and nurse again for only a few minutes. I try to limit her distractions/distractors, but it is a challenge!

I wouldn't call it abnormal. Every baby is different so along as growth is in line, I wouldn't be overly concerned.

Totally normal! That's the exact design of nursing an infant/small child. Think about it, in any other animal nursing frequently, full meals, just for snacks or a quick drink is totally normal! It only seems odd to us b/c we're all about scheduling a baby into working, taking care of a house, or errands. We still nurse anywhere from 3-8 times a days depending on whether we're home or out & about and P is just shy of 14 months (P doesn't nurse often when busy out of the house).

Normal. We were still nursing all the time at over 1 year old. He loved it so much. Mind you it probably isn't for nutrition but is more for comfort. As long as you are okay with it and baby is growing I wouldn't worry about it. If you aren't okay with it, there is nothing wrong with trying to stretch them out.

Totally normal! I still nurse W on demand at 14 months old and he STILL does this sometimes on top of 4 full meals of solids a day.

@hilsy85: i would think growth spurt, but she's been like this since she was a newborn and i just thought her feedings would space a bit more by now? i think she is more of a snacker for sure. i am a little nervous about her weight gain but her ped wasnt concerned at all. she was 17 lbs 15 oz at 4 months and was 18 lbs 12 oz at 6 months, so thats not too much of a gain. but she is still having plenty of wet diaps
@MsLipGloss: that makes sense...that must be it. esp. because when other people watch her, she eats 5 oz every 2.5/3 hours

@brownie: my LO is def a comfort nurser too and a milk monster haha, cant get enough of mommys milk! haha. i am totally fine with it, i dont mind at all, i just was worried it meant she needed more solids or maybe i wasnt producing enough for her anymore

I think it's normal.... but for me, when I'm home with LO, he definitely wants to nurse more. when he's with DH or at daycare or, basically, NOT with me, he eats less --- i think they see mama and just like to nurse!

My LO definitely nurses more frequently than he takes a bottle when I'm home !

Even though my kids are FF, they eat much more frequently (and a larger quantity) than a lot of other kids. I hear from other parents that their kids eat 4x a day around this age - my kids eat 4x before noon! It's just the way mine are wired. If she's happy and healthy, I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Totally normal. My LO nursed a ton for the first 9 months. It finally slowed a bit when she got the hang of solids.
