Just wondering as I try to figure out my baby's new behavior of sometimes not wanting to nurse. I think sometimes he refuses because he actually doesn't want to drink anymore (meaning he has had enough)....but i used to know he was 'done' when he got that drunk, sleepy look to him and would just purse his lips together when i offered more - no angry resistance. So i am wondering if as babies get older (he is just about 3 months), do they still always get "drunk" after every feeding?

Nope, milk drunk went away after about 8-10 weeks for us. I miss those days where she was like a limp open mouthed noodle of squishy baby!!!

@PurpleUnicorn: it's quite a wild ride isn't it? What I've come to learn is that for the first 6 months, as soon as you figure them out and get a 'routine', they are ready to change it up on you!! I say follow your gut, if he's acting full, he probably is.

@prettylizy: lol, i guess i am still figuring out what "acting full" looks like if not "drunk". I guess as long as he is not "acting hungry", it's a good sign! and yes i can see how he will keep changing things up once i think i've got him figured out!

Nope, not anymore. That ended by 6 months I'm thinking, that was when we stopped nursing to sleep. Sometimes as a fluke, maybe once a week, he'll nurse to sleep cause he'll be sooo excited and kinda have a milk coma look to him... but usually that's not the case.

@PurpleUnicorn: Nope. That stopped after P was a few months old. It might still happen in the evenings occasionally since breastmilk changes to calm & relax, but in the morning & during the day it's like nursing gives her energy!

Nope...stopped when he was about 6wks old or so and he stopped falling asleep after every nursing session.

Nope he hasn't been like that since he was a lot littler 11 weeks on Sunday here. I usually give him a few chances of ooooing in and off, make sure its bit a burp bugging him, offer the other boob and then close up shop.

she doesn't get milk drunk anymore, which i miss! probably stopped around 2 months? she usually stays awake while nursing and when she is done, she looks up and smiles at me and starts talking. also cute, but not the same. when she does fall asleep, she startles awake and looks really confused and disoriented for a bit.

@JessLC: that happens to L sometimes too, he falls asleep, but doesn't stay asleep. which i still took to mean he was done since he was temporarily drunk. I guess i won't worry about whether he has had enough if he is not drunk. so glad i asked this question! i feel relieved!

I don't know if my dude's growth spurting, but he fell asleep right after feedings last night. I'm taking it as a rare occurrence because it hasn't happened in some time. He's almost 6 months old.
