Vi has been doing this a lot lately.
If she wakes up and the situation has changed (like if I was next to her when she fell asleep and now I'm gone, or if my boob was in her mouth and now my bra is closed) she'll start to wail.
If a different person is holding her (like if she fell asleep with my mom and now my sister has her) she FREAKS!
If I immediately restore everything to the way it was before, she's fine.
So odd. Anyone else's baby do this?

She use to do it all the time. She just cries cause she wants us to come get her.

@Smurfette: She does it in my arms! If I closed my nursing tank or switched her to another position (sometimes as much as half an hour before). Or, in bed, if I rolled over.
It's like the change confuses/scares her.

I haven't noticed that so far I imagine it's pretty normal though. That's funny that she will be ok if you just restore the situation.

I think it totally makes sense! When we used to get E to a deep sleep and then put him down he'd always wake up crying. Someone explained it to me like this....if you went to sleep in your bed and then you woke up laying on your front lawn you'd freak out too. And I totally would! Once we were able to put him down drowsy and awake so that he'd fall asleep on his own this stopped. Now he wakes up babbling and happy.

My LO always does that, but in his case it's because he always wakes up wanting a bottle, and when he is hungry he basically screams at the top of his lungs until there's a bottle in his mouth. Yeah, it's pretty awesome...
Seems to make sense that Vi is doing that though - it can be disorientating to wake up and have things be different than they were when you fell asleep.

@wonderstruck: @Running Elley: agree! Makes complete sense, IMO. It's a huge part of Ferber's book--he's a big proponent of keeping the sleep situation the same, which makes a lot of sense, regardless of whether you agree with him on anything else.

Yes! C freaks out if anything is different when he wakes up. He's especially angry if it has to do with me or my boobs not being readily available when he wakes up

@Arden: During leave I had to hold R for every nap, and at least once a day she did that and nothing would change. Weird!

Sounds like the whole "object permanence" issue that starts coming into play around four months.

He does sometimes. Usually he falls back asleep after a few seconds!
