And if so, were you able to implement sleep training in any way?? If not, how did you get your LO to sleep through the night?
LMW is almost 20 months old and used to STTN every single night since she started doing it on her own at 8 months. We just took a trip and now she wakes 2-3 times a night crying. It's been a week and now she vomits almost immediately. So while we were trying to wait her cries out before, now it's not really an option anymore.

LO has done this before but not regularly/recently. Sorry no advice, but hope this is just a quick phase!

Yes! I haven't ever been able to do full on CIO. If I hear him crying hard for more than five or I see him start gagging on the monitor I go in and soothe.

Not me, but my very good friend's daughter.
I forget how old she was when she started doing it, but my friend said she had the hardest time sleep training because her DD would cry until throw up or make herself throw up, multiple times for attention/mom to come rescue.
Her pedi said to ignore it, and eventually she would stop. I think she tried doing this on the nights she'd throw up over the railing, but when it was in her bed, she just couldn't.
She did eventually stop.

@mrs. wagon: I have no clue since R isn't there yet, but do you think she knows if she throws up you will come in? I have no idea if at her age they can "think" like that yet.

@Smurfette: absolutely. :T Every night she vomits quicker and quicker. Last night she vomited after the first cry. She stops immediately and dives back down to lying down as soon as she sees us or hears us.

Damn, kids are so stinking smart! Is she doing it in the crib? Or over the rails? Could you put down plastic tablecloths for easy clean up?

@Smurfette: Usually over the rails, which is good because then at least she's not sleeping in it, but the last time I didn't go in, she slept standing up leaning on the rails for 6.5 hours. Then last night I told her to lie down and when she did, she vomited in the crib and rolled all in it. Ugh.

@mrs. wagon: We have a family friend who's son used to do this at meal time or just about any time he was frustrated. He learned that if he threw up he would get all kinds of attention and he used that.
After a while his mom would just sternly say "don't you dare" when he got that look on his face and he would be able to stop it. As soon as she made it clear that it was not going to yield the result he wanted he stopped doing it. I don't know what to tell you in your situation since it is at night in her crib....

@mrswin: thanks for this! She does react well when we are stern with her. So as long as we jump to face her before she starts gagging, she will stop. The problem is that it's at night in her crib 
I tried doing it over the monitor microphone/speaker last night but she would just not stop. I basically put off the vomiting and when I finally stopped saying "that's enough" and "shhh" half an hour later (yes, I talked into the monitor for half an hour straight! if I stopped she'd start again!) that's when she cried again and threw up right away while lying down.
Please let this be a phase... a SHORT one...

@mrs. wagon: I was really shocked how firm she had to be with him but it ended up working in the end. She is strong willed and I think will probably end up testing your limits with this, what if you went in right away? Is there a lovey or anything that might help if you remind her to stay focused on that?

@mrswin: she has a lovey she is incredibly attached to and sucks on for soothing. We have six of them because we have to give her a fresh one every day... they get so gross. But when she is this upset she either vomits ON the lovey or she throws it on the floor of the crib in protest. Lol. That part I find kind of funny because after throwing it down she always ends up picking him back up. But yeah... she rubs her face into it after vomiting.
I have thought about getting her attached to a few more stuffed animals and filling her crib a little more. But then I'm afraid she'll get used to them and then I'll need six copies of those too... haha! Ugh she is SO strong willed.

Can you give her your or daddy's T-shirt for her to hug? This actually works for one of my nieces. She will hug the T-shirt to sleep and her parents will retrieve it after she's fallen asleep.

Ours does this... The few times we have tried CIO... (we try every few months) vomit everywhere.
What we normally do is one of us (usually dad) stays with him till he falls asleep and we sneak out. It takes anywhere from 20 minutes to 2 hours. So annoying...
If we both need to sleep... He just goes in bed with us and he usually bounces around till he falls asleep on his own.
I think he just wants to be near us. Recently we left him with one of our brothers for 1.5 hours while we ran an errand and we came back with LO in vomit. I guess LO didn't know our brothers that well or was upset that we weren't around and cried so hard about being upset that he vomited.
He is 2 now and I know that this will pass when I figures out we aren't abandoning him ... hopefully.
