It worked great for me. I really noticed an increase in my pumping output when I was taking it, by maybe 5 oz more per day? (3 pumps total) No side effects whatsoever except less reflux, which was the reason I took it in the first place. (Positive effects on milk were the side effect, actually.) Go for it.

@mamimami: that's great! Did you order it online? How much were you taking?

@maybebaby: I live in Mexico so I was able to get it (Motilium) from the pharmacy. I took 10 mg 3x a day. So yeah, it was def. cheaper and more accessible here. Wish I could hook you up!

@maybebaby: No side effects. Increased supply almost immediately. I didn't pump, so I don't know about pump output, but I do know when we were doing weighed feeds it was several (more than three) ounces more per feeding. I ordered from inhousepharmacy.biz (which sounds sketchy, but is legitimate). There are some cases in which you can get it at a compounding pharmacy in the US, but it was not an option where I live.

@Mrs. Twine: That is the same place a friend recommended. Ordering. Thanks!
Anyone else?

@maybebaby: I found out about it from a breastfeeding resource book. Even still, I felt like I needed a fake moustache and a CIA badge to order. It's very easy. It just feels too easy, if that makes any sense. But it was a reputable source and I never had any issues. You do have to plan for it to take a while to get to you. I don't remember exactly, but I think it was about two weeks.

@Mrs. Twine: Ughhhh that will feel like FOREVER!! But thank you for the heads up

@maybebaby: Yeah, that part is miserable. I always made sure to order more WELL in advance of when I thought I would need it. Maybe you could try a compounding pharmacy in the meantime?

@Mrs. Twine: Luckily the same friend lives nearby and is going to spot me some to try while I wait for my order!

@maybebaby: I got mine at a compounding pharmacy nearby. I had to get a prescription from my lactation consultant (MAH).
It worked amazingly well, doubled my pumping output, no side effects.
It didn't keep when I stopped taking it though, and it was pricey ($180/month).

I got mine through my OB (I'm from canada). I take 2 pills 3x a day. It has boosted my supply, I EP and LO used to take 10oz of formula a day, now she takes 4. Overall I've had a great experience with it!

I'm currently waiting for mine to arrive (ordered online). This thread gives me hope!! I plan on taking 3 pills 3x per day (per advice from my LC).

@rachiecakes: I'm assuming insurance doesn't cover any?

@AprilK: I don't remember the mgs, it was almost 2 years ago now, but I took 3 pills a day for 3 days then, 3-3-2, then 3-2-2, etc until I was down to 1-1-1. I only did it for two months, I couldn't afford more than that and my supply had leveled off to where I was okay with it.
@locavore_mama: nope. But I could use FSA dollars.

I took 80mg a day for about 2 weeks and it didn't work. Some see results after 4-6 weeks or on higher doses - Dr Jack Newman says you can go up to 160mg - but I have a heart murmur so I didn't want to risk it. Most people I have talked to saw results within a few days or it never worked.

@Mrs. Twine: just wondering - did you need a prescription to order online? I couldn't tell from the website. My OB wants to research and mail me the prescription, but I'd like to order now if they'd let me!

@jaypegs: You don't if you order from the site linked earlier in the thread. If you're in the states you won't get a prescription unless you can go through a compounding pharmacy (correct me if I'm wrong!).
ETA: if you do order online, if order a decent amount, it takes awhile to ship!

Hey - did anyone try the generic version (vomistop) or only motilium? They look like the same thing, just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with that? @Mrs. Twine: @rachiecakes: @Vegmama: @maybebaby:

I am not pregnant yet, but I took Domperidone for several months for my gastroparesis. I'm in the U.S. and I had to order it from Canada. The pharmacy in Canada did require a prescription from my doctor. My insurance didn't cover any of it. I called around to compounding pharmacies in the U.S. but my insurance wouldn't cover it, either. It was a little pricey ($120 for 500 pills, maybe?) but not too bad.
At one point, I was taking 20mg 3x day. I was obviously not taking it for lactation, but even on that dose - it made my boobs bigger, and I could squeeze milk out of them, I would get milky spots in my bra, etc. And I wasn't pg or nursing!

@MrsADS: which one did you use? Inhousepharmacy wants a scrip now!! Any other recs@maybebaby: @ms.janedoe: @daniellemybelle: @Mrs. Twine: ? It's been working great and now I'm in a full on panic!!

@AprilK: Holy crap, seriously?! I'm due to order more but have been trying to wean off of it so I guess maybe this is it for me...

@AprilK: I used motilium (the generic) but not vomistop and got it from inhousepharmacy. That's awful. Do you have a compounding pharmacy near you? You can get it in the US there, but you need an RX. Hopefully someone else who has taken it more recently has some ideas for you.

@AprilK: A script? YIKES! I've been using it for more than a year now from inhousepharmacy—shoot! Like @ms.janedoe, I've been thinking about weaning off them lately. I have on box left, so I guess that's it for me.
@Mrs. Twine: Did you wean yourself off it? Any crazy side effects when you stopped taking the pills? I've heard to drop just one pill at a time. And did your supply tank or did it hold steady after you went off? (Your posts were in the past tense, so I'm thinking you're off it now?)
blogger / nectarine / 2608 posts
@Mrs. Rabbit: I did drop one pill at a time. No side effects on it or coming off. Lorelei was one when I stopped, but what I had was enough without any supplementation. She was eating regular meals and was really enjoying food. I'm not sure that I would have weaned off of the domperidone until I was pretty sure that food and just a little breastmilk would be enough. And, yes, I'm off it now. For around a year I've been off. Still nursing (Lorelei turned two in March) and no issues.
