DD just started daycare Monday for three days a week full days. DH can't do pick ups because he works too far and won't make it in time but if he doesn't drop offs he'll have the car seat... I'm guessing we will need two now?

Yeah sounds like you'll need 2 unless you just do both drop offs and pickups. That's what I do

@jetsa: yeah... Who does the cooking in your house? I'm not getting home until 5:45pm so it's a mad dash for me to make dinner and since my DH gets home around 6:30pm we'd also starve if we had to wait on him

DH drops off and I pick up. I can't picture only having one seat even though I walk most of the time.

I do drop off and DH does pick ups. We only have one seat but we always leave it at daycare (and that way if there was an emergency where another family member needed to pick LO up, the cars ear would be there. It's a bit of a pain to bring the seat in and out, but I feel better knowing it's there.

I do both 95% of the time. But daycare is a 2 min walk and I WAH so I am generally very flexible.

I do both also! Unless of course I am traveling for work then hubby has to do both.

We have discussed the logistics of this (I'm due next Spring). I'll do drop offs & pick ups because I go to work later (when daycare is actually open) and get home earlier. I already do all of the cooking. We plan to buy one car seat for my car. Then depending on how much we go back & forth between using my car and his car when he takes paternity leave we may get a second car seat even before the baby starts daycare.

We alternate on the days DH works he works 7a.m.-7p.m. so I do both
On the 2 days he is off during the week he does both so I can get to work a little earlier and DD gets picked up a little earlier!
For now we have 2 bases so both cars can have seat

@ms.jellen: I do most drop offs and pick ups. But when LO was a baby we just had two car seat bases and left the bucket seat at daycare, which lots of other parents did. Once she outgrew the bucket seat, we did get a convertible car seat for each car, although sometimes I see these left at school as well.
I also do all the cooking too because my schedule is less crazy than DH's.

Me. Dh has a 45 min commute the opposite direction. Occasionally my mom or sisters will pick her up, they have a car seat in their cars

We have 2 car seats. My husband used to do drop offs and I would pick up, but he now has a new job and I do both drop off and pick up.

Hubs does drop-offs and I do pick-ups. When the baby was still in a bucket seat, we had one seat and two bases. We'd leave the bucket seat at the daycare. Now that we use convertibles, we have two for each kid so that each car has a convertible.

@ms.jellen: DH does drop-off and I do pick-up. We do have 2 car seats. How old is your LO? If they are still in the infant seat, whoever does drop off, just leave it at daycare for the pick-up parent. Also, at our daycare, i always see a convertible car seat that belongs to one of the kids. So the drop-off parent must take it out of the car and leave it there for the pick-up parent. Definitely can be done with one car seat.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but we leave a seat at daycare as needed.
I do 80-90% of drop off and pickups - we now have two convertible car seats (DD is 2). When DD was little we only had one carrier (2 bases) and we just left the carrier there every day. Its pretty standard in the newborn room.
Then - DH installed the convertible in his car when she was about 7 or 8 mos and he used that while I used the carrier. Around 1.5 years we both moved to convertible. (DD was little so her carrier was appropriate until that time.)

Yep, 2 car seats. I usually drop off and DH picks up. We occasionally switch like today, but he normally goes in super early and leaves early to make the 6:00 pick up time.

I do all the drop offs and pick ups, because LO’s daycare is on my work campus, so it makes sense for me to do them. DH does them if I can’t for whatever reason. We both always have a car seat in our cars, as do my parents and MIL, as they can (and sometimes do) provide emergency childcare.

My husband usually does both. I end up usually picking up once a week or so. We both have convertibles. The one in my car is more basic than his since he is rarely in my car.

I do both, but when DH wasn't working, he did pick ups. We have two car seats.

I drop off, either of us pick up and sometimes we split duty since our girls are in two different spots now. DH does almost all of our cooking. So sometimes it's easier to have him head home and start dinner and I'll get the kids.
We have two seats (of all our sizes!). Our original daycare wouldn't let us keep our bucket seat there so we each needed one.

@ms.jellen: me, typically. I leave work at 4 pickup the kids get home about 5 and make dinner. Normally something quick and on the table by 6. My kids go to bed about 7/7:30

We bought three car seats - one for each of our cars and one for my inlaws' car. Although I do all drop offs and pick ups (sore subject), DH sometimes gets out of work early and texts to say he can get E. I LOVE those days, and they are made possible by the extra car seat!

I do both and we only have one car. This is causing a lot of difficulties when LO gets sick at school (twice this week) and I have to pick up but DH is the one who stays home with her so I basically have to deliver her home and get back to work while my nurse frantically rearranges my patients!

I do drop off and DH does pick up. I go into work later in order to drop LO off later, and DH goes in super early so that he's out in plenty of time to pick him up. When he was an infant, we did one bucket seat with 2 bases, and once he outgrew that, we each have a seat in our car.
I do see parents taking the full convertible car seat in and out of our daycare to save some money on having to buy the second seat.

Thanks everyone. Looks like we'll be needing two car seats. DS is in a convertible car seat and the daycare wont store the seats for the day. Which is understandable....

We have two convertible car seats as well. So much easier than taking it in and out! Especially since we do a fair amount of driving in both cars.

I have two offices I work from so our schedule is a little different everyday depending on where I have to go, but I usually do drop offs and DH usually picks up. We have two cars and two car seats.

I drop-off and DH picks up. Preschool is close by so we walk. DH and I both take the bus so car seats aren't an issue. We only have 1 car and hardly ever use it except on weekends.

He does dropoff and I pick up. DH works pretty late so dinner is just LO & me.

I do all drop offs and pick ups. On the rare day DH would need to get kids, I just leave car seats at daycare.
