We went away for the weekend so that we could attend a close friend's wedding. The plan was that I would give bottles of pumped milk when/where necessary, and also that DH would leave the wedding early, take DD back to the hotel and put her to bed. So we needed to break into the freezer stash to make sure we had enough milk for any and all eventualities.
Since we've never done this before, and didn't want to have any chance of ending up with not enough expressed milk, I ended up bringing way more than I needed (because I (a) kind of forgot that I would be pumping each time I gave her a bottle, and (b) forgot to tell DH to give her the oldest milk that I'd thawed, as opposed to the freshly expressed milk that I could use to replace the thawed milk in my freezer stash).
Anyhow, long story short (well, not really, still long), despite being packed in a cooler with tons of ice, the previously frozen milk had all thawed by yesterday. I tried to use as much of it as I could today (since Kellymom says that previously frozen milk only has a shelf life of 24 hours), but I still have 10 oz of excess that I need to dump. I worked so hard to pump that milk so I am so bummed
Oh well, live and learn.
