@winniebee: so it sounds like for you guys, it just took time for him to move his sleep schedule to a later wake up time?

@hilsy85: yes! He was in daycare at the time and I couldn't really manipulate his naps until then. He was up from nap at daycare at 3 and the latest we could stretch him for a long time was 730. As he got older he could stay up later and the 8 pm bed time became an option. Also he just never slept more than 10 hours overnight for a long log time. Now he sleeps more like 10.75 or 11 and even 12 occasionally. But we also occasionally have the random 5:30/6 waking which seems so early now but after so many months of 5, I will take it!

@winniebee: ah ok...I guess we might just have to stick it out then, ugh. I guess if I can get him down to STTN and waking at 530, I would take it. It's just the up at 445 and then up again at 6 that sucks!

@hilsy85: ya, believe me, I haaaate waking up my son too!!! But there comes a point where they just max out on sleep and expecting them to sleep more is unrealistic. When he STTN, how many consecutive hours of sleep is he getting? If he's getting anywhere between 13-14 hours of total sleep in a 24hr period (without sleeping in until your desired WU time), then your best bet would be to push bedtime later...especially if you don't want to mess with naps. If you want him to sleep more overnight, then you would have to limit naps.

And like others have mentioned, my son has learned to play / lay quietly in his crib until I get him. Sometimes we are really lazy in the mornings and he can hang out in his crib for over an hour and we have to double-check our video monitor to make sure he's actually awake because he's so quiet. I know you said you've tried it before...I think it's worth a shot to try it again!

Please let me know if you figure something out. My 12 mo used to sleep 7 - 6, now she's waking at 12 and 5 for bottles. I'm afraid I'm going to have to resleep train her. I hate that! And, I don't want to do it when we have to travel for the holidays.

@Sammyfab: I would say on a good day, when he STTN and has good naps, he's sleeping from 7-5:30/6, so 10.5-11 hours, and then 2 1 hour15 min naps. We put him to bed a bit later tonight so we'll see if it helps over the next few days! I also wouldn't mind if as he started to sleep more over night his naps naturally shortened, I just hate to wake him if he needs the sleep.

@kml636: ugh I also dread possibly re traininG! WIll update on how this works out

@hilsy85: No advice here, the only thing that came to my mind was limiting naps as well. My LO is a few weeks behind, as you know, he typically sleeps 6:30-6:30 and then takes one 1.5 nap.

@scg00387: yeah I just don't think he's ready to drop to 1 nap...he still goes down super easily for both!

@edelweiss: whine away! Last night here was AWFuL. Lo was up the first time at 1015 so we knew it would be bad. We have Motrin bc I think he has a tooth coming in but he was still up like 5 times. Awful awful. I hope you feel better! Also is it totally effed up that I'm thinking if you go home early and your lo is in daycare you get to be home by yourself and maybe sleep and I am jealous?

Just wanted to update--last week, I let LO fuss for about 5 minutes on Tuesday night around 430, and he went back to sleep til 630! And then Wednesday night, I let him cry for about 15 minutes at 5:15 and he went back to sleep until 7! And since then he has STTN at least 11 hours. I AM SO HAPPY. And I am sure that now that I am posting about it, it will end. but thanks to you all for your advice!

@hilsy85: omg that is amazing! Go L! I would basically die for 7 again, lol. M is still at 6:15-6:30. What time are you putting him to bed, out of curiosity?

@hilsy85: That is awesome!! I am jealous. R is waking up at 5, 530 if we are lucky, every day since the time change. She doesn't even eat till 615......still tired but she just can't get herself back to sleep.

@NovBaby1112: So I actually ended up keeping his bedtime the same, or even moving it up a bit--he's now in bed by 7pm, usually around 6:50. He doesn't usually wake up at 7, lol--the past week, I would say 6:15/6:30 is more the norm. He naps at 9 and then at 2, usually for an hour/hour 15 min. I really think that he was just ready, and letting him fuss for a bit those first few days helped. But like I said, I'm sure now that I wrote this all out, he will be back to waking up multiple times a night!
