When DD was about 9-10 months old, she choked on a two pieces of nectarine and I probably aged 20 years in the 30 seconds that it happened. I had to put her upside down and whack her so hard and one piece flew out. There was another piece right at the back of her throat that every time she cried/breathed it went back further so I stuck my finger in her mouth and fished it out but my nail cut open the roof of her mouth. Just typing all that gives me the chills...That was the worst day of my life.

Nothing yet. We had some minor gagging when we started BLW, which ended in us having to quit because I got NO support from DH and in-laws for that reason.

@wheres_c: I hope to move back to it soon. It was impossible with no support! Maybe once she learns how to swallow better, and maybe gets some more teeth DH might be a little more on board

Heh. I know you were asking about LOs, but I had a serious choking accident with the stringy cheese on pizza when I was about 12 (half the cheese was down my throat, the other half in my mouth, and I couldn't get it out either way). My dad had to give me the heimlich in a crowded restaurant. I really thought I was going to die.

I was traumatized enough to not eat pizza or mozzarella cheese sticks for many, many years. Till college, I think.

@swurlygurl: Exactly! I tried to explain that if she's coughing it's a good thing, it means she can deal with it on her own. People freaking out around her means she's more likely to choke because she'll panic if they do. Grrr.

So glad he's ok!!! I admit to being over protective about food...This is partially bc LO has zero teeth. So her menu is not very elaborate, therefore we've had no choking incidents. She is totally ready to feed herself, and gets mad at me when I don't let her, but I look at her big gummy smile and I dont want to risk it!

This scares me so bad. I am so afraid that I will freak out and not remember what I learned in CPR class.

B accidentally ate a pistachio when he was 2 and full on choked - it was terrifying. My mom, who is an ER nurse, couldn't get it out. After what seemed like a life time, he threw up.

We've had a few times. Mostly when he would take multiple bites of food. Once dh bent hin over n hit his back. Once it was close ebough that I scraprd it out w my fingers. We still do a mix of putee finger food n blw.

Glad he's okay! We've had some gagging moments but no choking! That's so scary!

@Anagram: I choked on a grape just a few years ago, and I'll say it was the closest I'd ever been to dying...or so I thought! Now, it makes me sooooooo afraid to give LO grapes at all!!
