Yep! And I remember them coming home and my dad had shaved off his beard and I was reeeeally shy around him.

Yup, they went every year and left us with our grandma who lived with us.

A few times, little weekend trips when I was a kid. When I was a teenager they went on one long trip to France.

Just once, for two weeks, and left us with a nanny. They hardly ever left us.
We'll be leaving our LO's when they're older!

Not too often. But every now and then.
@.twist.: This makes me laugh. I apparently freaked out and cried when my dad shaved off his mustache.

My dad gave my mom a Disney cruise trip for Christmas one year. When she opened it we ALL started freaking out (we are huge Disney fanatics in our family). He then had to explain that it was just them going, hahaha. Who goes on a Disney cruise without their 4 kids?!

Not really, though my brother and I used to spend a week in the summer with our grandparents, so maybe they did vacationy stuff without us! I always thought WE were on vacation without THEM, but maybe it was really the other way around!

Yep, Cuba, rented a houseboat in Tennessee, Mexico a few times, golf trips etc. We usually went and stayed with our grandparents.

@char54: haha too funny!!!
My parents never left me behind, granted we didnt go on too many family vacations either. I definitely plan to take a few adults vacations along the way when I have kids.

Probably once a year. They'd hire babysitters for the week and it was a madhouse! Now they go on one family trip a year and an alone trip almost every month. I'm so jealous!

Yep, they would go on weekend trips and they took a cruise when I was in HS.

Yep, at least once a year they took a week-long trip and lots of weekend trips
Now they only have one kid at home and they are constantly vacationing.

Yup, left with grandparents when they were away. First time was their honeymoon and they came home early because they missed me so much. That didn't happen when my brother was born and we were older... they probably wanted to extend it.

I can only remember 2 trips without us. Both times, we were all visiting my Aunt in California and my parents took an overnight road trip to Reno for a night or two. We didn't mind since we loved hanging out with my cousin!
I'm not sure why they didn't go on more trips because we lived with my Grandma. It would have been so easy for them to go out after our bedtimes too.

Yes - they did it a few times when we were younger, and more as we were older. They were typically week-long trips to nice places like Hawaii or the Cayman Islands.

Yup. Usually we'd stay with my grandparents. Once we were 15& 16 we'd stay by ourselves. But family & neighbors would check in on us.

Nope, but we also had zero family nearby so that might have been a factor.
We definitely plan on taking trips sans baby in the future!
GOLD / wonderful apricot / 22646 posts
Nope! They barely had time for family vacas (small business owners). Any time they had off, they spent with us!
nectarine / 2932 posts
All the time! Each year they would take a vacation just the two of them, and then a family vacation with all the kids. I hope to be able to do the same!
pear / 1556 posts
No, not until I was in college. I have a younger sister with Down Syndrome and some health complications on top of it, so they never wanted to leave her with anyone.

Once a year. Starting when I was about 7 my brother and I would go to a sleep away summer camp for a few days and my parents would take a vacation. I don't think we even knew they used that time to take vacations until high school.

@.twist.: @MamaMoose: I distinctly remember once my dad went on a several-week river trip and came back with a beard. I burst into tears and was still shy around him the next day when he shaved it off, ha.

Sometimes just to go to weddings that kids weren't invited to.
GOLD / cantaloupe / 6581 posts
Nope, and I wish they had. They could have benefited greatly from some non-kid time. It's one thing I will be making a priority in my family, and I'm so lucky to have a lot of family nearby to take care of LO!

Not until I got older. My parents went to Vegas and to races often over the weekends without me when I was a teenager.
But by then I wasn't interested in going anyway. Lol

My mom took a cruise to Mexico when I was 10 with her then boyfriend and his parents.
pear / 1586 posts
Nope. My mum wishes she had though at least once (my daddy is deceased now).
